Nevada Secretary of State ‘Nervous’ Over State’s High Number of Rejected Ballots

Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar is concerned over the high number of ballots that may be rejected in the battleground state. On Tuesday morning, Aguilar revealed that many mail-in ballots have experienced signature match issues.
The New York Times reported as many as 11,300 ballots in need of “curing” (the process of resolving ballots with signature match issues by contacting the voter) in Clark County and another 1,800 in Washoe County. Clark County, containing Las Vegas, heavily supports Democrats, whereas Washoe County only leans blue.
“When you start to look at the data and you start to realize how high it is, it makes you nervous, because, again, these races are so close, the margins are so slim, that I don’t want to look at the numbers tonight and know that we have to wait for ballots to be cured,” Aguilar said. “We need to ensure that every voter’s voice is heard.”

The counties being called were expected to go the way that they have. So far, in every contest being called, the results are in line with what was anticipated, no surprises yet.

Per the AP, “The AP declared the winner of this race when polls closed statewide. The AP only makes such a call if results from AP VoteCast at poll close show a candidate leading by at least 15 percentage points. AP VoteCast is a comprehensive survey of the 2024 electorate, conducted in all 50 states. AP uses VoteCast results to confirm a state’s long-standing political trends and voting history.”
