Olympics 2024

I brought it up because it appears to be an issue in Asian sports.

To add some positivity to the Olympics 2024 discussion, it’s good to see someone tearing up during the national anthem.

Saw this ad and considered buying but…

I have read so little about the Olympics and have tried to stay out of it all.

The Olympics was on while I was on the treadmill this morning. That’s the only Olympic footage I have seen this go 'round.

Have all along thought that every competitor should drop their pants and look straight down. End of wondering what your gender is… compete with those you are born like. If you can’t beat them, take up another sport. Maybe competitive knitting. By the next olympics that’ll be a sport. Still not watching.

Mine was determined by my mothers doctor as soon as she said she wanted me circumcised. One slip of the scalpel and my name would have been Dougina.

I intentionally avoided tuning in but have my antenna up for highlights, good or bad. I’m a sucker for feel good stories like the 0.0005 difference in the men’s 100m. The two golds in gymnastics for a Filipino. The cyclist who didn’t belong in the race but won gold :1st_place_medal:

OK, I guess. If you really must…

Regardless of the result… my team wins. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ok. I’ll admit it. I got very much sucked into a table tennis match while on the treadmill this morning.

Don’t get to sucked in… that next feeling may be your face hitting the tread! I am still not watching.

Growing up, I watched all events shown on tv, including synchronized swimming :swimming_woman:

Now the IOC really blew it. If you weren’t following, here’s the story…

American girl does floor routine for the bronze medal, going last, and is incorrectly scored too low, missing the medal to Romania. Romania thinks they won the bronze at the moment, but American coach sees the error in scoring and immediately file’s an appeal on the American’s score. Judges accept the appeal, immediately review the score, and revise the standings on the spot, awarding bronze to the American. Meal is awarded to who earned it, the American. All good, right?

Not so fast. Apparently all appeals must be filed within a minute of the end of the event, meaning our girl had one minute to file. Romanians, days later, decide the appeal was late. IOC agrees, it was late by 4 seconds, so even though they mis judged the American, granted the appeal on the spot, corrected the score, and awarded the medal, now, because of their mistakes, they’re telling the American she has to give her medal back.

I say, FO. No consequences for the people who F-ed up (first the judges, then the appeal board, then the IOC)… just for the American who actually won the bronze. Rules for thee and not for me seem to apply everywhere.
