I have been into firearms for a long time. I have bought every pistol platform: single-action, DA/SA, DA Revolvers, and Striker-Fired pistols. My experience buying many pistols pains my wallet lol. I learned a 4-inch barrel is my sweet spot for EDC and the 1911 .45ACP government is the only way. Plus, DA/SA-- DA=4lb and SA =3.5lb That is the way. I have also foolishly upgraded my Firearms, especially my Pistols, but that is not always the way lol.
What I learn:
-
Train Train -Practice allows us to repeat the practiced behavior consistently.
-
Buying WML for a pistol is not my way!! I feel it is just a gimmick for 98% of civilian firearms owners and a Money grab I said it lol-- I never got into all the crazy Ar15 upgrades- I have one that has ACOG good to go. lol
-
Upgrading triggers is good- I put in the time with OEM triggers before I update the trigger. 3.5lb is the lightest I will go for 1911 and 4lb for striker-fired -
-
Finding a holster is a pain in the A$$$-- I found Tenicore and Proteq Custom Kydex works great!! For leather holster, Ronin leather.
Final thoughts-
- I found and bought my Last two pistols
- Most of my extra money is going to Ammo.
- I am still having so much fun learning and training.

Looks like your “mandatory prerequisites” are finished and you can start fully enjoying shooting experience.
I’m also at the same moment (I actually found my last two handguns 11 months ago) and I’ve been enjoying every single moment shooting them.
What I learned:
- Find single piece of your shooting system and work on it. Train, dryfire, practice, confirm with Instructor. Then correct, dryfire, practice, confirm with Instructor. Once it’s done properly, advance to next piece of your system. No rush, once thing at the time.
- WML doesn’t work for me… I’d rather say, doesn’t work with my shooting system / techniques
- Trigger upgrades were good for striker fired handguns… but since I’m carrying and mostly shooting 1911 / 2011.. no upgrades are necessary. I only adjust leaf spring to get 4 lb trigger press.
- Finding proper holster is a pain in a$$. All my carry holsters had to be readjusted with heat gun to fit my handguns. Duty / range holsters are easier to find - Dara Holsters made my day.
- All money spent on “firearms stuff” goes to training - classes and ammo.
Final thoughts:
I have so much fun and enjoyment shooting, especially during 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 day classes somewhere in the middle of USA.
