It just isn’t that often a Sheriff advocates for concealed carry, or equates it to mask wearing to subtly appeal to a crowd that believes in carrying “just in case” but won’t wear a mask “just in case”.
BTW, Elbert County is mostly rural but does have at least one town (Elizabeth) that has become a major Denver suburb.
However, it is important to note that localities are aware of the power that Sheriff’s have in their communities and they are starting to discuss creating Police Departments if they do not have one. Unlike the Sheriff, Police Chiefs report to county/city/town administration and this gives the government more control.
