It just isn’t that often a Sheriff advocates for concealed carry, or equates it to mask wearing to subtly appeal to a crowd that believes in carrying “just in case” but won’t wear a mask “just in case”.

BTW, Elbert County is mostly rural but does have at least one town (Elizabeth) that has become a major Denver suburb.

That part about,

“WILL NOT be taking action to cite citizens or businesses for not wearing masks.”

I love my Sheriff!

"I encourage the Culpeper Board of Supervisors and all Virginia localities supporting the Second Amendment to send a clear message to Richmond in the form of resolutions declaring that they will not exercise local authority under Virginia Code 15.2-915(E). The Governor is calling a special session of the general assembly and further gun control will be a focus. Citizens should contact local and state representatives to have their voices heard.

I’ll say again, if the previous bill, or similar legislation, to ban so-called assault weapons and high capacity magazines is passed, I will swear in thousands of Reserve Deputy Sheriffs in Culpeper. My authority is not limited to swearing in only residents of Culpeper County and I intend to exercise my authority fully within my discretion to do so.

However, it is important to note that localities are aware of the power that Sheriff’s have in their communities and they are starting to discuss creating Police Departments if they do not have one. Unlike the Sheriff, Police Chiefs report to county/city/town administration and this gives the government more control.
