My wife is 5’3" and maybe 130 and she shoots a full sized frame .45 Ruger. I got her a S&W Shield .380 she hated it. Promptly walked to my safe and took out what is most likely the heaviest of all of my .45’s and said I will just take this. Then like a smart well trained husband I said Yes Ma’am whatever you want dear.

45 pros;
Large holes
Good penetration
Less snappy recoil, more of a push
Low pressure round
Common on many platforms

Negatives
Big round, low capacity (in guns of equal size)
Ammo cost is more
Thick grips on the guns

If your mom goes to a gun shop, picks up a 45 and likes it, that’s a big asset. Like someone else mention, what’s the intended purpose? Home defense? Buy a duty size gun, and enjoy. Concealed carry? Compacts and sub compact 45s are still very shootable, but, lower capacity.

45 is my go to round. My M&P 45C is the same size as a Glock 19, but, holds only 9 rounds(11 with a full size mag). It is very comfortable to shoot. I’ve shot a lot of different 45 auto handguns. For me, the hierarchy goes like this
M&P
1911 platform
FN
Walther
Ruger
Glock.
The size of the gun, and weight of the slide will be the determining factors if she can “handle” it.
