More gun control laws in MN?

For background information, a firefighter/paramedic and two police officers were killed when responding to a domestic incident in Burnsville MN. The shooter was prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior convictions. Predictably , the StarTribune newspaper published an editorial calling for yet more gun control laws. I wrote a letter to the editor as follows:

“The Tuesday Star Tribune editorial “Gun laws in light of Burnsville’s tragedy” totally missed the mark. Instead of calling for yet more gun control laws, the Editorial Board should be calling for a thorough investigation on why the laws we already have did not keep guns out of the hands of the person who killed the officers and paramedic/firefighter.“

Agree 100%, but they will never do an investigation in anyway shape or form. It would not look good for the lefts agenda when they find that with all of the gun control laws to stop this person form having a gun they were still able to get one and commit a crime with it. More gun control laws will only hurt law abiding citizens, criminals will always find a way to get one.

We should all write to our news outlets, and legislators the same. Although I wouldn’t know what to say without being sarcastic.
I’d like to see your full letter, Stephen369. The inspiration would be valuable.

I have to say MN has some great things to offer like fishing and hunting, but when it comes to firearm they being the government is just to blue and lib for me. if MN was truly pro gun they would have it in writing, but no they don’t. The Minnesota Constitution does not contain a provision regarding a right “to bear arms.”

I’m often amazed at how the term “Criminal” escapes Government and Media pundits. They ignore the fact that someone that has been Accused, Tried and Convicted, didn’t really care what the buildings full of law books said. Potential punishments didn’t effect their actions. Getting caught was not of a concern to them. So adding more laws, laws the law abiding citizens will comply with even if they are oppressive doesn’t effect the Criminals.

I agree with all more gun laws not needed, criminal need to be put in jail longer a lot longer for gun crime, maybe that would slow them down but i doubt it.

TRUTH! If you IMPRISION the Criminal the first time then they cannot continue their Crim ways! SIMPLE.
BUT if your ULTIMATE GOAL is to Disarm the Citizenry then every time the Crim makes another hash mark on their record (your death, Car jacking, Rape etc) then these same politicians (who give not one lick for you or your families lives) get the opportunity to overburden the Law Books with more Infringements on our Second Amendment Rights and Freedoms. Their thinking is when we own nothing more than spitwads and a straw THEN they will BAN the straws! and be truly free to do whatever they want with us.
We need to get back to “WE THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE” Governing. Not this
Socialist/Marxist Money/Power grab that is in effect in the Swamps all across America today. Make no mistake Ladies and Gentlemen EVERY State Capitol is Infected by a Woke Mob of Criminal rulers bent on their enrichment and our destruction. The last time I felt somebody was looking out for us was when the ‘Orange man’ was in da houze! Like him or hate him he gave a sh** about this country and US!
These scumbags will continue till they get down to a tiny screw that holds a Red Dot scope to a firearm and it will be an ASSAULT SCREW! accordioning to them till there is nothing left to shoot. They are trying to put EVERY FFL, EVERY RANGE, AMMO MAKER out of business. The only one’s left standing will be THEIRS! so they can continue to feed their WAR MACHINE and supply our enemies.
Gun Control is People Control!

Check that: There are a few RED STATE .gov’s fighting for us and our survival. Don’t want to paint everyone w/ a BLUE brush. That’s why people are fleeing the Blue for the red states now.

This is liberal democrats way of fixing a problem! To take care of the problem with women being harassed in the work place!! Make a law removing all women from the work place!!! Their same thought on guns!!! They need to leave US and the 2A alone! And enforce laws against the criminal use of guns!!

Thanks, Eugene. I posted the entire contents of my letter above (as a reply to myself as I first mistakenly posted only part of what I intended to. Still learning how this works.).
There’s another letter in much the vein if you care to look it up in the StarTribune.

Apparently it is being investigated by the state BCA. A gun shop owner confirmed that an AR15 lower reciever involved in the case was purchased in January in a “straw purchase”. They have had some success recently prosecuting straw buyers who sold guns on to criminals. Here’s hoping for more.

Could be said for conservatives too! e.g. Republicans in the House holding Ukraine aid hostage to a border crisis solution, even though they were presented with a bipartisan bill from the Senate.

I and I suspect many others here see the Flood of unknown, uncontrolled, undocumented 30 something males from all corners of the globe crossing into The United States by the thousands as a bigger, more important issue than sending ANOTHER Billion Bucks to Ukraine. Play politics with it all you will, it doesn’t change the fact that illegal border crossings are coming to Your Neighborhood today.

I’m no fan of pretty much all of the Republicans and Democrats in DC and elsewhere. In my estimation the vast majority of them belong behind bars for a wide variety of corrupt and/or treasonous acts. After looking at that bill I would say it was nowhere near a solution to the boarder crises. It still allowed over 1.5 million illegal crossings per year. Assuming the actions in the bill could somehow actually get the numbers down to that amount. That is a completely unsustainable and unsafe amount of people to allow to cross our boarders unvetted every year. Especially considering our $34 trillion and skyrocketing debt and $200 plus trillion in unfounded future liabilities. Not to mention our government is already doing an incredibly poor job of solving the problems all the legal citizens already here are facing everyday.

The Border and Ukraine are incredibly complex problems mostly brought on by our leadership in DC. I feel those problems should not be lumped together so that half butted “solutions” that don’t really solve them can be forced down peoples throats.

And, the “solution” brought to us by Congress is to print more money for both problems. That exacerbates the economic problem of a devalued currency that drives inflation, essentially imposing a “tax” on everyone who pays the inflated prices.
