I was USAF and tdy to an Army post for a month. After the 1st day in the mess hall I ate in the NCO Club. At least he had plates. We had greasy tin trays. USAF radar sights had really good chow. Army guys would fight to get tdy to an Air Force site or base.
I was both. There were Army mess halls that weren’t bad, then there were some that I avoided at all cost. I’d eat MCIs instead. I did that often in Panama.
Worst USAF facility was Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. The best was at the old McClellan AFB outside of Sacramento.
I was stationed on an Army Air filed detachment in Europe. Since the Army doesn’t have weather men as an MOS, or at least they didn’t in the early 70’s, we had an Airforce Captain and an Airman stationed on our airfield. No question about it, we loved to go to the Air Force Base for chow. If memory serves we’d road trip it to Zwiebruken AFB.
LOL, I’m sitting at work scrolling the forum here, and as I’m reading this, a guy near me, who is an Air Force vet, is on the phone telling a story about being put up in a luxury hotel in Saudi Arabia when he was deployed with the AWACS supporting Desert Storm 
When i went from Camp Lejeune to elmendorf air force base. I thought I was in club med. Got my own room in the barracks ( which they apologized for) , i was an E-5 at the time but no room in the NCO barracks so they put me in the E-4 and below barracks. I still out ranked everyone in the building and as a Marine, no one said shidt about what I did. chow was basically a restaurant. I sure as hell wasn’t complaining
I knew some Army guys who were part of a Patriot team. During Desert Storm they were deployed to Israel. They spoke in hushed tones about luxury hotels, awesome meals, generous per diem, and friendly locals of the opposite sex that were very easy on the eyes.

Saw one of those in RAF Base High Wycombe (LOUD! Glorious! FAST!) too bad a ‘Limey’ was piloting her. (Couldn’t understand a damn word he said! ’ Well, icabickadicka blah, blah blah '----WHAT?
