I had that same problem back in the 80s. But back then it was because of an all night drinking binge

“Reveille! Reveille! Reveille! All hands heave out and trice up. Reveille!”

Is that on a surface craft or a sub?

I’ll take my self bought water proof, good to 10 below cammo sleeping bag over that.

Could be either, however judging from the bulkhead at the rear of the picture I’d say surface.

OK so if someone Snores, or Farts, or Talks in their sleep?

Well, Reveille is universal to all branches of the military.

But, I had not heard of trice, that appears to be uniquely nautical, like to the navy.

Like tightening a sail taunt with a short rope quickly, or as applied in the photo:

Swing your butt out of your rack, holding onto a strap hanger, and plant your feet on the deck, at attention, instantly, without hesitation.

I know that in the Army, when the Drill Sergeant hit the lights on in a Barack’s sleeping bay, our feet had to be planted on the floor instantly.

The first morning in basic he launched a big empty galvanized metal garbage can down the center of the bay, that was the loudest noise banging, and rattling that echoed through the bay.

After that our eyes snapped open before he flipped on the lights.

As if that was not enough, he also blew a police whistle, shouting some rude phrases, and banged a police baton around inside another empty metal garbage can.

One guy that slept through all that found himself face down on the deck with his mattress on top of him. He was harassed all day, and too tired not to sleep that night.

The next day he was the first on his feet at reveille. Lesson learned.

Thanks to George98’s link to Navy slang, I believe trice up refers to folding the bottom (third) rack up against the wall so the floor under it can be swabbed clean. Ya learn something new every day.

My DI would hold the metal lid beating it as he walked into every room. You had exactly 5 minutes to be out the rack in your PT clothes and in formation. God help the poor soul that didn’t make to formation on time. We would be back taking a shower and making our rack and the late guy would still be out doing grass drills. As you said, it only happened once.

Well, if it wasn’t for the boxcar……

I better stop there before I get into too much trouble.

An expensive statement.

I wish I could afford to that.
