Very misleading article title! “Thief tries to commit vehicular homicide, shot by victim” is closer to the truth.
Innocent until proven guilty
Why not apply it equally?
A suspect was allegedly shot while allegedly trying to steal catalytic converters.
Alleged catalytic converter, alleged gun, alleged bullet, alleged suspect, alleged news source
No sense in going out on a ledge about this.
I suspect that being shot is a factual event that happened, and nobody needs to be convicted of a crime. The shot may be legal or may not be legal, what that shooting is ruled as would be alleged (murder, attempted murder, agg assault, justified self defense, whatever)
Edit; Eh that above paragraph doesn’t really make sense, disregard
