Lately, I exclusively use https://ammoseek.com. They don’t sell anything there; it’s an aggregator where people can summarize who’s got what available, price per round, purchase limits, and so on. Lots of filters you can apply to the search. So you can find, say, the cheapest remanufactured .45, or only brass-cased 62 grain 5.56, or specifically Hornady Critical Defense 9mm, or whatever. Then you choose the site from the results list, click the link to go to the listing on that site, and buy from them. If there’s a box of 50 9mm ball for $25 but with a limit of one per customer, I might go further down the list and choose one that will sell ten boxes at a time, otherwise I’m eating the cost of shipping on that one box instead of spreading the cost over several. Ground shipping doesn’t go up much between 2 pounds and 15.
I used to just run down to Dunham’s for a couple boxes of Blazer Brass for $12, but their shelves have been empty for two months and there’s no way I could keep track of who’s got how much of what for how much without a huge spreadsheet and a lot of spare time.
Again, my intent was to educate us all on being on your toes about the possibility of a set of eyes on you/your house—and not to suggest that you change your behavior.
I, too, fly an American flag (in probably unique in my area for that) and occasionally fly the Gadsden flag along with it.
Like being a concealed carry individual, just keep your eyes open to possibilities. Things may go south in certain areas.
You’re all right. They know. Just by my membership magazine and the other gun rags that I get in my po box, all of the USPS employee workers at my local office for years now have made indirect remarks to me. One time while at the counter, one of the guys began talking about where things were going with the country and while looking at me made the statement that he’d bet his life that I have a get-a-way place and emergency gear buried all over the place and asked me if I’d take him in if it ever came down to anything. The others at the counter were all staring and listening with bent ears, because they too knew. Trust me. They know whether you order ammo on-line or not or even if you don’t get firearm rags. There are always other markers out there, which is why the ads we all get are relegated to our lifestyles. They know. They surly know.
Regrettably, here in California, mail ammo orders cannot be sent directly to our homes. The shipment has to go to an FFL or mega store (Sportsmans Warehse) and they charge a processing fee for the receipt and handling. After all that you have to have background check to actu receipt your ammo. No chance of Fed Ex tracking my orders. But what a pain.
Seems to me the flags and attitude we should be flying in protection for our homes are the Gadsden, Don’t tread on me, and the Come and take it Flags with the attitude to go with it. Of course I’m retired with family elsewhere but that’s the way I look at it.
FYI, IMHO, USCCA and NRA instructor and IDPA shooter, best place to price ammo from internet is AMMO SEEK, ( NO, not paid for endorsement) They list price by the round or by box or case, and give you an idea of whether store has cheap or expensive shipping charges.
We rotate our flags here at Casa del Moro - Florida. In Texas, we flew the Texas state flag and Gonzales flags on state holidays in addition to these we fly here: US, 1st Navy Jack, Gadsden, Army, and Navy colors. On federal holidays, we fly the US stars and stripes. In TX, we flew 2 at a time. Here, we only have room for 1 at a time. We fly the Army flag the week of Army birthday, the Navy flag on the week of Navy birthday, the 1st Navy Jack the weeks of Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and the Gadsden flag whenever the Hell we feel like it.
It is a little worrisome. I don’t post pictures of guns or me with them and I wonder about the magazines and catalogs that come in the mail. I stopped putting decals or stickers on my cars etc as I don’t want to advertise anything anymore. Am I paranoid or just careful?
We aren’t “normal.” We have real enemies, and some of them are highly trained and motivated. So I’m probably the wrong guy to talk to about the appropriate line between caution and paranoia. I’m sitting here next to a 21 month old girl we rescued from being trafficked for drugs as she takes a well-earned nap.
