I think I posted on here before, My Far, Bernie Sanders, Leftwing son called me from Alamogordo NM when he lived down there, said he thought he needed a gun because he saw a letter sized poster on a telephone pole that said something like “Hunt Down and Kill the Lefties”. I told him like I tell all first time guy owners, find a person in your community that knows about gun safety, gun laws and the use and care of firearms. He fortunately had a good friend that was a retired SF guy that helped him, took him out shooting, taught him and his wife how to handle and take care of firearms and when to shoot and when to run, so to speak. Both kiddo and wife carry daily now. They moved up north where it is way more comfortable to carry a firearm. ---

What do you think it was that made your son swing so far left? This is always of an interest for me when I hear people talking about how their children or parents don’t vote the way they do. My Children are Libertarians like myself, maybe it’s because they can cherry pick the issues they feel passionate about, or maybe it’s because they put the Constitution first, I don’t really know. They are both small Government, Federal Government out of their bedrooms while supporting Capitalism and the Constitution types. Now I was very conservative till I moved from Arizona to Oregon and the shift primarily was due to me becoming a Libertarian which took place because I was making friends with gay and trans people where I stopped caring so much about social issues and became more focused on Constitutional issues. I grew up very Goldwater Conservative as was my father and my grandfather. Interestingly enough my father who used to tell me growing up that all one has to do is look at the Mascot for the Democratic Party to understand what you are getting in the deal is now a Hard Nose Democrat, he flipped back in 2019. He was again a Goldwater/Reagan Conservative so I was not that surprised when he came to the conclusion that Trump was not about small Government or lowering tax burdens. ---

I hate to disillusion the liberal-haters in here, but plenty of liberals own guns. We just look at them differently than some others. We also recognize, as the late Justice Scalia wrote in the Heller decision, that all rights have limits. This differs from some arguments I have seen on the far right that the 2A is unlimited, that they should be able to have anything and everything they want. That has never been the law, even freedom of speech has some limits. And a couple of examples. Vice-President Harris famously said she has owned and practiced with a Glock since her prosecutor’s days in San Francisco. I learned to shoot over 60 years ago at Boy Scout camp. Plenty of liberals I know are ex-military and own guns, but aren’t flashy about it. And you would not believe the number of liberal men and women who come to me for advice about firearms training, which I ALWAYS tell them to do first, esp USCCA-sponsored classes, and on what type of firearm to consider as a first purchase. And even though my state does not require a license for open or concealed carry, I have a lifetime handgun carry permit. So if that shocks anyone, check your assumptions at the door please. ---

I do believe there are liberals who own and use guns, for sure, but they must be a pretry silent minority in the Democrat party, because from where I sit, it still looks like Democrats want to pass unconstitutional, extreme restrictions. I’m not going to repeat myself in this thread, but I’ve brought a lot of statistical evidence over the years to this forum regarding the total ineffectiveness of current gun control laws at stopping violent crime, yet Democrats in states they control keep pushing more and more restrictions forward, even on very common firearms. Please explain that, as a liberal. We’re not talking exteeme weapons here, unless you agree with Tim Walz that a basic AR15, of which there are millions and millions in circulation, is an extreme weapon. ---

I think you missed the point. Liberal gun ownership and training is increasing. And why? A substantial number of those, from my personal experience, is fear of MAGA and its secret police, ICE. And even those people, and me too, believe in reasonable gun laws, such as magazine capacity and universal background checks. The most extreme on the right want zero regulation. In the meantime, many of us have decided not to be defenseless, whether from “ordinary” criminals or those radicalized on the right. You may well be outraged at that. But it is what it is. ---

Making laws for gun does no good. It is the people committing crimes with guns we want to stop. Guns are for stopping crimes not committing them unless one is a criminal. Not saying you are a criminal, you are thinking like one. ---

I’m in support for anyone to exercise their 2A rights and always will be. My question to those that are Pro-Regulation but are not Anti-Gun. What does regulating magazine size to a specific round count do to curb criminals from acquiring and / or modifying to increase capacity to suit their needs? **Absolutely nothing** If a regulation that was intended to restrict access to components for purpose of thwarting criminal activities does nothing but limit the capabilities of law abiding citizens, what was its purpose? Evil does what it wants, regardless of “regulations” in place. ---
