Kids need to be taught avoidance

To answer your question…He got the gun from underneath his Girlfriend (The Victims) Aunts couch, she KNEW he had it and still made the decision to involve him and Jaelynn in the “Neighborhood dispute” (AT HER HOME) starting with little kids and than the big responsible ADULTS turned in to an all out ignorant ass war!
My Son seen his girlfriend and her Aunt involved in a fight and made the stupid ass choice to take a gun trying to “Protect them”. That choice resulted in the loss of Jaelynn, Whom he and we loved and always will very much. He tried to save her life while her family ran and left them! I wish I would of Never let my son stay the night there and I wish he wouldnt of picked up that gun. I wish the adults would of adulted and I wish Jaelynn was here. We love you Jae and We love you Nate. He will spend the next 20years in prison for this and he knows he deserves to be punished. Im sure that makes some of you very Happy! He has parents, hes not in a gang and it stemmed from kids getting bullied and the adults in Jaelynns family taking the sh** way to far! 10 am on a Saturday morning! My Son and Jaelynn were asleep until the Aunt Courtney Poturalski woke them up, involved both of them because she got her ass kicked! Than called her kids father and about 4 other men to come over including her ARMED STEPSON! My Son made the ultimate mistake of that morning and it will haunt him forever! But, I dont care who dont like it, but her family that was also involved AND FIGHTING are just as much to blame! Im curious to see who else would feel like the adults that were involved are partly responsible? Even tho they didnt pull the trigger they sure as sh** lit the fuse to this tragedy!

All I can say is thank you for your input and fleshing out more of this story that was not covered in the article.

I am sorry for your loss, genuinely.

It sounds like she meant a lot to you, and as a father myself I know how heartbroken I would be to see one of my children go to jail for soo long over what was a horrible mistake.

This story though, reinforces my opinion about training and education concerning firearms handling.

Perhaps, if he had more training and experience in handling a gun, when this situation manifested itself, he’d have been able to hit his intended target, or not fire at all, and deescalate with just a show of force.

I actually had single opinion, not “a lot” about the case. How could I testify if I wasn’t there? Yes I got your point… I wasn’t there… but neither the Judge… so we make opinions based on collected information.
This story is over, nothing more to discuss. Hopefully others can learn from it.
