To everyone here who celebrate -the sacred, the secular, the simply cultural- I wish you a Merry Christmas! No matter how you celebrate the holiday, I hope yours comes off just the way you like it best.
To all those who celebrate other traditions at this time of year–Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and no doubt many others I don’t know of–I send the same wish to you; that your holiday goes just how you like it to.
This season can be hectic and hurried. Try to find a few minutes with your loved ones to take a breath and just enjoy being with each other.

That is true. Though I have no idea why that is since you can put a miscellaneous thread into any of the other categories and it will likely immediately post even if it doesn’t remotely fit the category.
The waiting period on miscellaneous threads makes about as much sense as the waiting period for taking home a firearm in some states. It only stops the people with good intentions while those with bad intentions will easily find a way to get around the rules.
My guess is that it was done less so due to potential bad actors, but rather in an effort to help keep threads in their appropriate categories so that others could more easily find them when searching and to help reduce the number of duplicate threads. Of course, I assume, that helping to monitor thread topics and prevent controversial discussions also played a role in the decision to set it up that way.
I just think that the delay in the miscellaneous pushes more of the controversial topics into the other threads.
Knowing of the delay I just use news and current events when I want to talk about a miscellaneous topic that is currently on my mind. But what could be more controversial than all the agenda driven news about current events in these divided partisan times? So why no delay there?
I just think the delay is more likely to muddy the topic waters and delay nipping problem topics in the butt. Without the delay more of the potential problem threads might stick to being put in the misc. topic that people focusing more on self defense issues can just ignore. Then the mods could just keep a closer eye on those topics that appear in that category and take care of them, if need be, soon after they are created.
Plus it often delays timely miscellaneous discussions like these that the vast majority of people do not find controversial.
Not to mention that now we have several 2024 Xmas threads because no one knew that several other people had already started one and were also waiting for their threads to clear the waiting period jail.
Better get those 2025 Happy New Year threads started right now so we can see them before 2026 arrives!
