One of the first things socialized people teach their children is right from wrong. Pulling a gun on cops because your father was wrong is not defending your family, it is stupid, uncivilized behavior.

When I was young my dad took me hunting and taught me gun safety. He also said that handguns only have one purpose. handguns were for shooting people. When I started to venture into becoming a Police officer the handgun was a piece of equipment and has been that way for me ever since. I did not become a Police Officer but, I served in the Marine Corps to get the backing to become a Police Officer and now I am a chef. Who would figure?
I could not imagine leading my children down a road so dark and violent!

The courtroom, judge, and jury are not present at the side of the road. Our system requires a trial, where the accused gets free representation. It may not be perfect, but it is far better than many justice systems in other countries on this planet. Shooting it out with the police does not determine guilt or innocence. The fact that someone would even imply that this type of behavior is just, moral, and correct is appalling.

I think we should all be celebrating the “heroics” (aka SOP) of a police unit which didn’t choose to light up everybody within range at the first hint of sideways. Maybe the kid will one day absorb a lesson from that, too.
