Not a troll, my question was based upon someone I’m connected to on social media, their comment was that if an ICE agent put a gun in their face they would consider that as a lethal threat and respond kind.
my personal training, over a plethora of years, would be to attempt to de-escalate, rather than draw a weapon. I’ve from a child, was situational awareness and avoidance. Then if I had to use any self-defense it was in effect to be the last result. and that I was to stop assailant – that person’s comment simply caused me to think, and question their comment, and what my response would be.
I’m a civilian, I’m a nerd, but have worked with a variety of different law enforcement agencies and military as specialist in my field. I grew up learning a variety of marshaled arts, principally various types of edged weapons. But also, physical self-defense. I also grew up around firearms. My grandfather as his retirement was from the government became a specialty gun smith, my father used to hunt regularly. Today as I age my personal reactions are not what they used to be, plus with the current political unrest, I’ve decided to start carrying. Because of my history, I choose not to carry and turned down job positions wherein I would have been required to carry.
as I said, my question spawned based upon a posting from someone I’m connected to. I regularly question myself; how would I react? These, or at least similar where interview questions, if I had draw and use my firearm could I? sadly, my answer was based upon my training, the answer is yes, but the 1st attempt would to be to try and de-escalate
I have never killed anyone and hope to not be placed in that situation. But I have physically hurt people disarming them, based upon blind reactions, which scared me in that I reacted faster than I knew, and didn’t realize what I had done until the person was on the ground.
