That’s a tough question. In my group we have a designated Hunting/Security team, designated Logistics team, designated Medical, designated Commo, and various other groups. Our plan is to not have any contact with anyone. I would like to think we would share replenishable supplies such as crops and meat.
But to give this an honest and sober reply. I am not sure I would be on board with non replenishable supplies being given. Purchased with some form of mutually agreeable goods. Yeah I could do that. But say for example a medication I need to use to treat the people in my care. I could see doing it with say Willow bark. But the actual aspirin. I honestly would have to put it to my group.
The men in my group, are all NSWC veterans with a pretty expansive skill set. We all have dependents. So we aren’t cruel or uncaring, but I do not feel comfortable risking the people of my group without buy in.
This is going to sound truly awful, and I own that. But triage is a real thing. Someone else’s PPP does not an emergency make for me.
Now, say we are restarting the human race. Yeah being a child or a woman is a very beneficial trait. But I think what we are talking here is just plain and simple survival. That’s different. I’m saving my supplies for the loved ones of myself and the guys in my group. If they are supplies I can replace I would help to that limit, unless it’s a physical skill that costs me nothing but effort.
Good Question @BobbyJean, that one made me think for a minute. Curious what others would say.

Given that the vast majority of the people in this country aren’t prepared to go three days without a reliable supply chain of food and water, and that our government can’t even handle a single small to mid scale regional disaster without people getting desperate I suspect there will be a lot of hard decisions being made if we ever faced a wide scale societal breakdown.
I don’t think you can trust any parent with a starving child to not beg, borrow, steal and even kill if they have to in order to get their child what they need to survive. If anyone finds out you had the supplies to help one person you are likely to end up with countless other people at your doorstep looking for help.
The potential of having to turn down someone in need would be one of the hardest choices I’ve ever had to make. I have a natural desire to want to help others. But I have limited resources and have tried my best to put what I can towards making sure I can provide for my family if the times get tough. I wish I had more money and space to set supplies by for others. But I don’t and I don’t ever want to have to find out what I’m capable of if I see my child starving.
My plan for if things get bad is to stay out of the way and hopefully come out of the other side in a position where we could help others pick up the pieces and start the cycle over again. Hopefully with a better ending next time.

I believe avoidance is the best strategy if you have a strong enough team and a good location. I unfortunately don’t have the team or the property to guarantee a successful avoidance strategy.
I do live in a small rural neighborhood where the majority of people are more prepared and capable than most with outdoors people, nurses, and former LEOs etc. So I think we would do ok in a mid level disaster.
For anything worse, I have a couple of similarly prepared friends with families that I could trust and have several out of the way locations we could retreat to. But we would be at risk if a larger group happened upon our location.

That’s the problem in a nutshell. Being small enough in numbers to evade, and being large enough to defend. It’s a difficult question to ponder.
For a long time my thoughts on EOTWAWKI has been getting to my boat and ride it out on WaterWorld. It has some really good advantages, but the drawbacks are very bad. But there’s pluses and minuses to each type of plan.

Reminds me of a story I read awhile ago that I think was about 3 guys in a very small fishing boat. The motor died and they were adrift for almost a year living off collected rain water and raw fish.
