How many holsters does it take to get the right one?

I have heard about the drawers filled with holsters that just was not all it was supposed to be. Shoot, I have abox full myself. It is not like you can try them out first and see if it works for you. So many body types and so many different ways people dress. It really shouldn’t be a surprise that people have more holsters that are uncomfortable or too insecure but always is not right!
I have leather, kylex, IWB, OWB, AIWB, Shoulder holster, and even my homemade holsters. Then to top it off each gun usually takes a different holster too. with a variety of different guns and calibers it requires an even better collection of holsters. I believe my problem is that there should be a better holster out there that works perfectly, and I keep looking for it.

I have thought about making a web site for turn in a holster for another holster. Not sure how to make it work but that is how my brain works. I have a lot of ideas and I just keep playing with those ideas. So, with that, how many holsters does it take to get the right one?

Wondering if I am the only stiff on this site lucky enough to get it right on the first try…

Worthy idea though!

Two for the first pistol. Then when you find the correct one you keep buying the one that works. So for each new pistol it’s only one purchase.

It’s like potato chips, you can’t just have one.
Depending where I’m going, how I have to dress and the activities I’ll be doing. Right there 3 different ones.

This is like asking how many tools is enough, how many guns, or how many beanie-babies to have in your collection, - The answer is universally known to be, “how ever many you have +1”

To end my personal holster quest I had to make them, which meant figuring out how to sew leather, but once I did I could carry 24/7 as comfortably as if it wasn’t there.

Like the exact number of Pi to it’s last and final digit, the answer may never be known to science.

How many holsters? Well according to my wife the magic number is 1,465,432…… per gun :rofl::rofl:

I love trying new ideas and sometimes just because. But there are cases like the two AIWB holsters I have for my P365 where the difference between their length is probable less that 1/16” and one pinches me when I sit and the other one doesn’t but side by side they look almost the same.

In any case new boxes come to my house with my name on them and wife just hands them over without opening them and just announces “You got a new holster.” :sunglasses:

BTW that website already exists. eBay is a great place to find/buy other folks unwanted holsters for cheap and dispose of your own failed experiments.

I don’t know how many I have.

I’d put the over/under at 40.

I only use like 3 or 4 really because one of those will fit multiple guns (G17 holster also fits 19 and 26) and all the IWB are the same basic holster from the same manufacturer now that I found ‘the one’ for me (at this time)

I’ve been carrying for about 20 years. If we all still happen to be alive when the “perfect one” comes along, I’ll let you know.:wink:

MRT IWB was the first one I tried and loved it. I have the MRT style for the 3 EDC’s I use. I’ve had no reason to buy anything else.

I bought these two before my CCW days, thankfully only two before I settled on kydex holsters by Clinger :crab:

Tried the first one. Now waiting for the second one to arrive.

I have only 2 regular carry guns, and 5 holsters between the 2. For both I have OWB pancake leather holsters that I’m totally happy with, kydex OWB paddle holsters for when I’m working outside hot and sweaty, then an IWB for each, which I rarely use. My small revolver also has a pocket holster that it’s almost always in, unless it’s in the pancake on my belt.

I suspect that IWB carry has a lot more variables that mean many more attempts at comfortable and effective holsters, but I prefer OWB in most all sutuations, so it’s a lot easier to research and pick a good holster from the start. The OWB pancakes I like are from 1791 for the revolvers and Urban Carry for my autoloader.

I think that’s the second Monty Python reference in two days  Just a couple weeks ago I watched Holy Grail with my daughter and her boyfriend. She had first watched it with me probably when she was 6. It’s still as funny today after all these years. She and I drop lines from that movie into conversations all the time.

I used to go through 5 before i found the right one.
Then i bought one from R.U.T KYDEX in louisiana. I only use his holsters now…he makes my iwb/appendix rigs, and my owb range rigs. Look him up on facebook.

1, kydex, just heated it up and reshaped it for whatever pistol I was carrying at the time🤣
Seriously, 1 Muddy River, 2 Versa leathers, and a Tier 1.
