Went to a new range yesterday. Had a really nice hour and a half drive each way, but it was worth it. Bought a day pass and was able to bang steel out to 800. Furthest shooting distance I know of around here that doesn’t require an annual membership, and a lot less time to get there compared to Texas. I’ll probably go one more time before I consider an annual membership.

Since my normal shooting spots were blocked by mud and snow I went to a real shooting range today for the first time in probably 3 years. Needed to sight in my shotgun again since I lowered the sight to cowitness with the iron sights.
Also sighted in a new 1x prism sight on my 300blk. It was weird shooting without the brace but finally figured it out enough to hit the 12” gong at 100 yards and the human sized silhouette at 200 yards. Though I needed to brace my elbows on the bench to do it. Gonna need some more work for offhand shots at those ranges with just my cheek against the buffer. Should probably invest in a better trigger than the heavy milspec one on there at the moment.
Realized I hadn’t shot my home defense pistol in over a year so I brought that along as well (G19 with iron sights). I was definitely rusty, not used to having an audience and not used to having to slow down to one or two rounds per second to keep from drawing the ROs attention.
Target was 10 meters away. My first magazine was high compressed ready to extended 1 or two shots aimed at the X and repeat. I haven’t shot at paper targets at 10 meters in a long while so it was weird not being able to tell where my shots were hitting like I can with steel targets. Went for the head with my second magazine. Finally calmed down and ignored the audience for the last 15 shots on the 3”x4” mini target in the corner. A little happier with that last group even with the two “misses”.

wondering why you didn’t reinstall your brace… given the nationwide injunction barring the enforcement of the 'rule"?

It is my understanding that the injunction is only a temporary stay and likely wont be permanently decided until (if) SCOTUS takes the case up.
After the ATF threatened to turn me into a felon because I had purchased a piece of plastic that they said was perfectly legal at the time of my purchase, I followed their mandate and ditched the brace. Can’t seem to remember where it ended up. I’ll wait until the brace ruling is more permanently decided before attaching a brace to it again.
I attached a buffer tube with a foam cheek pad. Despite the ATF’s attempts to make all these pistols less easy to fire accurately thus increasing the risk to innocent bystanders I feel I can shoot it accurately enough for the in and around home defensive situations I purchased it for. If shooting from the prone position or braced against a wall it seems capable of doing the job out to 200 yards or so. Probably further but that is about my limit with the 1X sight on it.
When shooting offhand at targets under 50 yards most of my issues seemed to come from working the heavy trigger with the less stable platform. More practice and a better trigger should fix that.

many retailers, such as PSA, are now selling brace installed pistols again, so I put my KAK shockwave back on mine AR-9 variant and purchased a 7.5" 300bo with a sb brace. No need for me to be less accurate in the meantime.
If the rulings go against these in the future, so easy to remove, put the foamy back on, and adjust the red dots.

That seems like a reasonable strategy for the moment as long as everyone is aware the situation can change instantaneously at the whims of the courts or another end around of the laws by the ATF.
If my 300blk was my primary HD tool I would likely go back to the brace. But It is my second or third option so I’ll leave it as is for now. If I can learn to shoot it well this way then going back to a brace in the future will just make it that much easier.

It’s cool and grey up here still. Seems almost as unusually cloudy and stormy as last winter except we haven’t gotten all that much snow accumulation this year. Just enough to keep me out of the gravel pits:( I don’t like tearing up the forest service roads when they are muddy.
I need to see if I can find a good snow and mud free shooting area somewhere between here and the Valley or maybe out towards Prescott.
