Uuuuuhhhhh,… okay, maybe most of the time,… but I’ve quite literally had wild turkeys eating out of my hand…

I have shot deer at 5 yards with rifle and bow.. Moose at 25 yards with a rifle. My longest shot was an elk at 70 yards with a rifle. Bow hunting will teach you to hunt in a hurry.

I’ve caught pheasant by hand as well, and when I was a kid my mom lost her :poop: when I carried a live mallard duck home from the lake to keep him as a pet!

What can I say, he liked me! mom had to chase him to get him to fly away!

Fed that duck at the lake for about four years before he stopped coming back (died)

Aside from fowl I have also petted two different wild deer, one fawn that was bedded down doing its “I’m invisible if I don’t move” thing.

The other was an adult buck that walked right up to my truck while out 4wheeling….

So yeah, under the right circumstances, you can get close to prey animals.

A load of 00 Buck headed down range doesn’t care from whence it came.
Just sayin’

My point is i use the same shotgun to defend my home that i use for duck, turkey, pheasant, quail, rabbit and even squirrel. I see zero value in a tactical shotgun when a Mossberg 500 will do just as well in home defense at a fraction of the cost.

The only thing stopping me from using my DP-12 for hunting is the laws that say how many rounds I can have in the gun.

At the end of the day, were it not for those laws, tactical shotguns would in fact be superior hunting tools in most circumstances.

How much did you pay for your DP-12? I think i paid around $300 for my 500.

It was on sale for $900,… Normally around $11-1200.

Yes there is a cost involved with a tactical gun vs a hunting gun.

But your argument that my tactical gun can’t put food on the table is moot.

What is not moot is in a close quarters self defense situation a gun that is only 29.5 inches long will be quicker to deploy

And will be far more maneuverable than a 4+ foot long gun like an 870 hunting gun

Edit here’s your 500… still effectively four feet long.

I am surprised, i expected the DP-12 to be well over 10 lbs. The fact that it’s just over 2.7 lbs of my shotgun is impressive, however it makes me ask about durability and longevity. My shotgun is 10 years old, seen a lot of rain and crappy elements and still functions great. I am confident that with proper care and maintenance it will still function when my grandchildren inherent it. Can you say the same about the DP-12? And you pointed out earlier your state would prohibit you from using it for hunting. Not like your State’s rules apply in a SHTF situation. For me I see no value in spending that kind of money for a tool designed for “home defense” where a cheaper product would be just as effective and serve multiple functions.

WOW that’s pretty crazy ! Great pic of

There is always the Mossberg 500. Barrels are readily available and easily interchangeable. 18.5 for HD and 26" for hunting. For survival I have a 20" vent rib barrel with a Poly Choke installed. Instantly change choke with no tools required. That is the 12 gauge. The 500e in 410 has an 18.5" cylinder bore and a 24" VR full choke.
