Not buyer’s remorse yet, but- a yr. ago I bit on the great deal on a Hellcat Pro with 5 mags, zipper gun case and a range bag that fits it all. A year later pro deals are still everywhere! My question is the grip. I test fired one a few rounds and loved the sights, felt nice and took the deal because I wanted to get a pistol with a cutout for an optic. Bought the gun, bought the optic ( not installed yet). Then came my first 50 round session and discovered that the back strap is almost square up the whole grip! After 50 rds my hand feels like I was hit with a 1x2 tomato plant stick a couple of times. Anyone ever stick a strip Dr. Scholes foot pad to a grip? I don’t the grip any wider but the back strap sure could use some radius to it.
I have the same issue with my Hellcat Pro. Love everything but the grip. My hand hurts or takes a beating sometimes. I just purchased a Talon Grip to see if it makes any difference. I have not had a chance yet to try it at the range.
I honestly am trading my Hellcar Pro for the Sig P 365 because of the grip
Check out the HK CC9 grip
I did a range rental day with the wife a few years back to find something for her (ended up with something for me instead ). I didn’t like the 365 or the Hellcat. They are Snappy. I really like the 43X. It’s larger profile is a good balance for me and is more pleasant to shoot.
That being said! I would carry and train with a Hellcat. It’s a good carry gun, BUT small guns have their draw backs. They’re not the most fun shooters. The discomfort of shooting at the range will not be an issue for carry. I hate to be that guy, but I would just adapt to the system since you have it, and it’s reliable. Lots of pros to the hellcat but there are trade offs in a 9mm that size.
I have owned the Hellcat and shot the Pro version. Personally I like the Pro version better due to the longer grip and barrel.
But like has been said, the blocky grip is what sent me to my HK VP9SK. The 3 palm swells and 3 backstraps you get in the case customizes the grip to exactly what I want.
Have you considered replacing the grip module? A simple upgrade that can produce a significant improvement. I got a Wilson Combat for my P365 for around $70. Love it.
Anxious for your results.
My reply was for John1243.
The Hellcat Pro is the same size as my Mossberg MC2c( 4" barrel,13 & 15 round mags) which I shoot quite well and love doing 80-100 rounds at steel shoots. I got the Pro because I couldn’t get a new MC2c slide with the cutout for an optic.
Right. I’ve carried a number of guns. It takes time to find the “best” set up. I’ve been fortunate to be able to afford and try multiple different firearms for carry (thanks to my amazing wife ). My first gun was a PC Shield with an external safety. Darn good pistol and edc. Would still be a great option for me today. That gun is still going strong, but I don’t ever carry it anymore. BUT if it’s all I had I’d still be in a great place for edc.
Oh gotcha. So is this for EDC or is this just making a gun you bought more shootable? Because it sounds like you like your Mosberg.
I bought a Holosun 507 optic to fit on the Pro to train and learn optic shooting. I do not carry as yet. I originally got a Bersa BP9cc for EDC which is a fabulous, comfortable pistol. The more I read the more I felt the need for a little longer sight radius and MORE capacity, thus the MC2c and the Hellcat Pro. I also Pop’s 45 Colt 1911 from WW2 which I love shooting and is very accurate. Just too large for me to EDC and I like the idea of having 15 rnds of 9mm available on the draw.
That makes a lot of sense. I haven’t ventured into optics yet. It’s on my list but financially it’s not the priority right now. I have toyed around with buying an optics cut 43x but cost wise I’d rather cut my 43x slide, but also my 43x is just fine at the moment and I’m not ready to modify it or then be forced to also learn optics shooting with a gun I’d end up carrying but not actually feel ready to carry.
The P365 grip is just too small for me. I can’t drop a mag while two bottom fingers are still around the base plate. Real short barrel too.
Subcompact handguns, like SIG P365 require a little different technique in order to smoothly drop the magazine.
All depends on the hand size, but the easiest way is to loosen your grip at the bottom and pressing the mag release with non dominant hand’s thumb. This way magazine’s baseplate is not blocked by your hand’s meat.
The x macro series of the 365 have a longer grip, and feel very comfortable in my hand.
I chose the Hellcat Pro over the original 365 because the grip on the 365 was a 1/2 finger too short
Well, using two hands to release the mag is easy. My aim is to do a tactical reloads with dominant thumb release and a fresh mag on -the-way via the support hand. I’ve succeeded
doing that with the Bersa and the Mossberg, but not consistantly. An instructor had an issue with me altering my grip to get my thumb onto the release- my trigger finger was crooking and getting to close to the trigger and not staying straight.
Because it’s easy - that is the best way to do so…
If you want to do tactical reload, both hands are involved, no rush, because you are doing this behind the cover / concealment… so nothing complicated here.
I do concur with the critique. It is my carry gun, but not the gun I shoot most. When I do train I typically shoot ~200 rounds through it and I feel it. Yet. I love it. The more you shoot the more you train the better it becomes. I find myself taking a host of guns with me to the range, just so I don’t burn one down, but then I shoot my .357 S&W mod 60 with full loads, just to remind me how light shooting the Hellcat really is. So. My advice, as poor as it is, is find a gun you hate more and shoot it until you like how nice the Hellcat feels. Be safe!!
