Glocks are popular, but why? ;)

I have a Glock and it’s nice. But nowhere near my Sig. everyone likes to quote Glock and say “Glock Perfection”. If it’s so “perfect “ why are they spending hundreds more to modify the trigger, new sights, new grip, extended controls, etc.
Glock is a great gun. It’s reliable and been tried and tested. But I agree with other analogies in liking it to a Honda Civic. Good reliable car that has dominated the market. But put it up against a good German engineered BMW and there is no comparison. That’s my Sig in my opinion.

Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives? That is the best convenience store not a government agency.

Same here. They just aren’t comfortable. I like the Full sized Bersa 9 Pro. It is a level above everything else in comfort while gripping.

I’m a Sig girl myself, but the price and accessories available for Glocks are attractive.

If you’re not a Glock fan (or even if you are) share your favorite gun on this other thread too: What's your favorite gun?! Pictures are welcome!

I bought a 43x as a daily carry. I’ve fired about 800 rounds and had one small feed malfunction at the range. I think that had more to do with the ammunition. Easy to use, reliable and cost effective.

Marketing works. If it’s in your face constantly people gravitate towards it. Kinda like politicians at election times.
I live my life to the beat of my own drum, not someone else’s. A clean gun is a happy gun. Whether it be an S&W, Ruger, or even a Taurus revolver, if it’s clean, it’s happy and I’m happy. I don’t live in a swamp, or live in a desert, nor do I take my gun into the water, if I did any of those I would probably have a glock because that’s what all the hype says it works with. A lot of handgun issues are shooter error, just as car problems are driver error. An old Volkswagen Bug owner who knows his vehicle is safer to be around than a person who drives a big Cadillac just so they can say “look what I’ve got”. People even buy toilet paper because of marketing expertise. I personally don’t want to take care of business in the bathroom with a quilt.
I keep my firearms clean and they thank me by doing a good job.

Don’t love them. I can however think of reasons why people do…
-reliable
-cheap
-many after market accessories
But I can give just as many, if not more reasons why I don’t…
-grip angle sucks
-sights suck
-trigger sucks
-grip stippling sucks
-dont like how they breakdown

I used to HATE Glocks, even after I shot a few different ones. I’m a bit old school and not into the polymer, but it seems to be the way of the world, so after I got my cc permit, I bought a Glock 42 and was given a 26 from my dad. There are 3 things about Glocks you can’t deny…
They’re user friendly (basically point and shoot), durable, and they dont break the bank. I’m pretty pleased with my Glocks so far

My Glock 43 is my first gun that is all mine. I tried a few before getting it and though most of them fit my hand well at the end of a shooting session my hand would hurt somewhere.
I read an article about the glock 43 and couldn’t wait to try it! My husband bought be one and the article described it perfectly. I like that it doesnt have a safety i have to remember to release. It is comfortable, concealable, easy for me to break down myself. And it never once hurt my hand, even after this past month with a say and a half of training my hands NEVER tired or got sore at all!

Simplicity under stress, in addition to all the aforementioned reasons.

Third handgun that I personally owned is a Glock G30. The other two I have since parted with, but not my Glock. Over 20 years old and other than the recoil spring and upgraded tritium sights the rest remains OEM. I think I have had maybe 4-5 failures in all that time and thousands of rounds downrange.

Popular because of name! No safety, like a block of metal! I have a 17 but would not carry it for personal protection due to the fact that it has no safety mechanism only in the trigger and I feel there are many that are equal or better. Sig Sauer offers equal or better reliability while also having a double action as well as safety also used by many special forces operators throughout the world.

I had stayed away from Glocks since I was a revolver guy along with my 1911s when the Glock first came out. My first Glock was a G21 that didn’t feel good to shoot at all. Next I got a G19 but ended up modifying it substantially (grip reduction, stippling, springs, slide lock, sights, etc) to make it work for me. I’ve also picked up a G19x that I’ve modified to fit my shooting style better (sights, slidelock, etc).

Still not totally convinced on Glocks but they are reliable.

Never owned a Glock, but know a lot of people who swear by them, and read nothing but good stuff about them. I guess I’ll have to buy one myself and see how it works for me. Will it replace my Sig P938? Maybe not, but I’ll never say never. Off to start my research.

The manager at my new sporting goods chain that opened closer to my house, swears by Glock also. He used to be a law enforcement officer and let me know of a traffic stop he was at in the rain, he was shot, the vest saved him from the bullet entering his body. He fell backwards, rolled in the mud. Drew his Glock 21 .45ACP and returned fire killing the guy. His Glock was completely covered in mud and still fired saving his life and stopping the threat.

I own one Glock 42. I own 2 sigs P320 TACOPS and MPX. But my favorite most reliable firearms are the Springfield Armory XD40 and XD40 Sub Compact. I know a lot of people love glocks.
