Fun conversation with a Recruiter out of CA

I recently had a Recruiter for a Tech company out of CA reach out if I would be interested in a job out of the Bay Area. My first question for them was if I needed to be in office, indicating I would have to actually move to CA. She told me I would be required to be in office once a week, I told her that would not work for me since I would have to move to CA and that would have a serious impact on my life due to CA gun laws. Which I assumed would end our conversion however she then immediately followed up with they would fly me out once a week the evening before, provide a hotel and fly me home after my in office day. And they were ready to offer me 3 times my current salary which is low 6 figures. Not a terrible setup but I have equity where I am currently at and the 3 times current salary will not make up for that. But for other people who have CA recruiters reaching out, don’t hesitate to lay out why you don’t want to move there, you could get options.

I am always open as to my issues when “gun control” laws are the issue. As you implied, money is not the issue, same here. If I were 30 years younger, I might make a different decision, but now retired, I have no money worries. I was fortunate enough to invest early to ensure I could retire early - my goal. I had read too many, and/or seen too many stories of people dying before they could “enjoy” retirement. I was not going to be one of those. I chose to save and retire at 60 - been enjoying it ever since. Even better my wife will be retiring at the end of April. She didn’t want to wait that long, but I convinced her to stay until she could draw on her 401(k)s without penalty - not that we would need it before then, but just in case.
