Is this something that the community might feel is worth discussing? I would say it’s important to freedom of speech and information, among other things.
I categorize “freedom respecting” as:
- Is Free (as in freedom) and Open Source
- Does not take grants from ESG funding vehicles, or has foundations that take tech oligarch donations for tax breaks
I realize that makes the list incredibly short, but there are some companies and projects trying to do the best they can with a polluted upstream.
Any thoughts or criticisms?

Tough considering Silicon Valley heavily leans left.

Does ESG funding and tech oligarch funding influence freedom of speech?

Yeah, it does. Lying by omission is the same as censorship. It takes away the ability for people to have informed ideals and consent. It is against the First Amendment to deny people ways to have rational debate. It is in their best interest to keep people watching the train wreck, participating in a false dichotomy, and waging targeted lawfare. ESG grants (a.k.a. tax dollars) are behind all of it. It’s the never ending “Too Big to Fail,” program v.4.0.

We can’t stop people from lying. We have to know when they are lying. We have to fight for our rights if people deny them. The way I look at it is if one doesn’t want anyone to take their rights don’t take anyone’s rights. My solution is do to others as you would have done to you. Money is not my G-d. I don’t think billionaires have it any better than me. It all depends on what one holds dear to them.

The real problem isn’t which way Silicon Valley leans politically, it’s which way the people spending the money in Silicon Valley are leaning. Most of that money is from ESG grants and government contracts, which means taxes.
There are already Free and Open Source projects forked from long standing projects that turned into sociopolitical activists and avowed members of groups classified as dangerous. The forked projects are becoming more successful than their predecessor. It’s because those long standing projects are too busy (pretending to be offended and virtue signalling) to be productive, if they were even productive to begin with.
There are also several grifting projects that pretend to care about privacy and security taking money from grants or VC’s funded by us. It’s going to be difficult to navigate, and consumers need to watch what these people are doing, not what they are saying.
