If he goes to his employee handbook and it says nothing about such situations; he may have a defense for wrongful termination. Of course, if it does address such situations, then he may be cooked as far as employment is concerned, though he may have just precluded the demise of everyone there.
One thing is clear. All this young fella was trying to do was his job and make it home at the end of his shift or wherever or whatever he does afterwork. These miscreants had the unmitigated gall to issue threats, and the audacity to park their vehicle, go into the establishment they just verbally threatened, and acted as though nothing would happen?! Surprise, surprise, surprise! They are surprised that someone was listening, took them seriously, and responded in defensive manner. They are extremely lucky to be able to thank God for His mercy, and the grace that they found in their time of need.

Since all McDonalds restaurants are franchises owned smaller companies, all the handbooks are for the individual franchises.
I have looked up several of them online and they all have similar bullet statements forbidding firearms within the restaurants. If this lad did have his firearm in his backpack INSIDE the restaurant, he is probably out of a job. I would need to get a copy of his particular franchise’s handbook to verify.

Probably because of perceived liability that corp. would render broad guidance, but what about contingencies that no one ever thought would be possible. Like this one. There ought to be some sort of recompense.

At least this employee saved lives as well as his own, BUT the way it all played out, what he basically faces(besides getting fired) is the TAMPERING with evidence (picking up the casing, and could have sworn it may have been said, the bullet 
?) and leaving the scene (your honor, I left for fear of my life and the life of those in the restaurant to a safer location in case they return for retaliation). The perpetrators should face stricter charges than what was placed on them that caused all this commotion to begin with (ATTEMPTED… with the attempt to cause…)

The punks pulled up to the drive-thru and were told that they couldn’t place an order. At worst that’s a minor disappointment, not a reason for violence. It’s a bad idea to let the bully-boys make your decisions for you. That’s not “prevention”, it’s capitulation. Next thing you know the bullies are running everything, they way they do in a number of nations these days–the “good” people are letting them get away with it, which makes the “good” ones irrelevant.
It’s one thing to be peaceful; it’s another thing all together to be a doormat.

I CARRY everywhere, every Job , if a Building or business has a GFZ sign I pass.

If your going to be stupid and have fast food till 3am Nothing good will come of this! 3AM is when the Monsters come out. The LAST thing an Employer needs is Open doors at those hours for the Homeless, Grifters, Thieves, Robber’s Rapists to come waltzing into your establishment and killing your Kids you employ. What are you stupid?
If my kid worked there (he/she wouldn’t) PROTECT HIM/Her or I’ll Arm them up myself and it won’t be a ‘McGraze’ for the perp.
You mess with ME or My kid and you’ll be in the McGrave. There won’t be any Safe spaces or Time Outs invented I can’t get to you. Dig a Hole (make it wide!)
Teach our Chil’ren the proper way to handle the AFTERMATH—Leave the Casings where they fall, If now safe stay @ the scene and take it like a man (or Woman). At 3AM even the Cops are Tired and possibly testy getting called away from their ‘Lunch/Dinner’ break. Stay the course! Tell the TRUTH–The fact that this was all on camera and your version jives exactly with the camera makes you look better. Nobody likes a LIAR! You start trying to make yourself look LESS Guilty you then Create SUSPICION! And it just goes South from there.
You skirt the TRUTH and the Cops give you the squinty eye and it can all go sideways from there-you don’t need that noise.
So your Kid (or you) lose your job. SO WHAT! YOU ARE ALIVE! It’s all gravy from here on out no matter what they throw @ you. It doesn’t matter if it’s McD’s or Intel (It’s just a Job)
Teach your Kids the (4) Rules, and TRAIN THEM UP so they DON’T give the perp a Graze (and a second chance to KILL THEM). These little bestards are CRAZY out there, mix in 3am and they are up to no good. At 3AM they are ‘usually’ going to be 3 things: High, Drunk or spoiling for a fight to make them feel better about their crappy lives.
3AM the only folk’s out and about should be Cops, EMT’s Truckers and Long Haul drivers who work for BNSF Railroad! Tee Hee Hee! (that’s me!)

You are looking at the point wrong end on. Those punks obviously thought a few cheeseburgers were worth their lives–or the clerk’s. I don’t see problems. I see challenges. The only challenge I see is not killing somebody unless they’re trying to murder, or cause grave bodily harm. I don’t carry a gun because it’s the answer to all life challenges.
