Exposing suspect's penis, threatening to tase his 'nuts' during arrest

“The actions of the officer who deployed the taser in the video are disturbing,” said Vancouver Police Chief [Jeff Mori]
personally I don’t see a problem with this FAFO  I could see them being more in trouble for shooting him. really they had the right to shoot him when he punched and kicked them during the arrest

One unarmed suspect punching while attempting to escape from two officers wouldn’t seem to justify lethal force, probably shooting him wasn’t on the table.

I’d say drop the charges on the female officers, great job on arresting the shoplifter. Teaches him not to be punching female officers.

If it’s stupid and it works, it’s not stupid. No charges. :+1:

I guess I’m in the minority here but that doesn’t sound OK to me.

If it was a pair of male officers doing that to a female suspect a lot of people would likely be wanting the officers to be charged with sexual assault. It would be a significant double standard to say it is OK for female officers to do that to a male but not the other way around.

Now if the officers continued to have problems gaining his compliance through other means and were forced to kick him in his privates a couple times (without pulling his pants down) I think that would be justifiable use of force to stop a threat.

This may be a case of FAFO.

I don’t see where the officer deliberately exposed his junk.

Should they have have retreated to a neutral corner while the perp redressed?

The verbal threat of tasing someone’s genitals seems a little too similar to a threat of sexual assault and/or torture to me. Regardless of whether the pants were pulled down intentionally for this purpose or not. Seems like something Russian and other out of control soldiers in a war zone would threaten to do. Except they’d probably use a knife instead of a taser.

This technique for subduing an attacker has not come up in any of my self defense classes and I suspect it is not in the police manuals either.

I’m all for draining the swamp. But methods mater.

Dehumanizing criminals because they are others and the bad guys is very similar to the kinds of thinking and actions that lead to war crimes and genocides. Things almost always get out of control when we allow the good guys to act the way the bad guys do. Allowing the others’ rights to violated because we believe it will make us safer usually ends up with everyone’s rights getting violated in the long run.
