Thinking about buying one of them so absolutely NOT looking to knock them down. They serve a purpose and certainly look appealing and God only knows I’ll end up with one eventually because I’m easily influenced by my “bad” friends.
But, I’ve been leery of them because I keep thinking that there has to be something besides the cost of labor under the hood of the super low cost. Again nothing definitive but just the hair on the back of my neck thing.
I know one of the manufacturers had a recall because of sears wearing out IIRC? I know folks here and personal friends I trust that have the higher end RIAs and have shot them enough to have a good experience with them, so those are not the guns I question. But I don’t know that the “seconds” parts pile is not what they send to the GI budget gun assembly bench so I’m looking to find out.
Has anyone here truly tested one to the point of being satisfied with longevity, wear, reliability? Basically more than a couple of boxes of WWB?
I mean I have 1911s that I’ve fired a LOT over the years and externally and internally they are still like new with zero parts failure.
So outside of a novelty or sheer curiosity I’m not into buying a gun and then finding out 100-1,000 rounds later that I’m replacing breaking parts or having issues with metal etc. and end up with an investment well over the value of the gun. So I’d like someone I trust to tell me hey, have fired 1,000? rounds through theirs with no issues or something similar to abate this “feeling” for lack of a better word.
In the 1911 forum they have a lot of fans but I get the impression that many of the folks are more hoarders than shooters. Again nothing wrong with that, but it’s not the information I’m looking for. I’m not an occasional shooter. There are a few thousand rounds of ammo on the floorboards of my Jeep right now waiting for my next outing. I shoot a LOT, and this gun will probably get 500-1,000 rounds the first month I own it.
Again not looking for the virtues of a $300 vs a $3000 gun I already know those. Just for someone that has run one of these to tell me yep, they go bang and parts don’t break shortly after you buy one.
Those are excellent guns! I almost bought one of those myself. A few of my friends have them and they are superb guns, but when I went shopping for it I got a great deal from a gun store manager friend of mine on an “old new stock” DW he wanted to get rid of and I bought that 10mm.
The ones I’m interested in are the Tisas and RIA GI sub $300 ones. I’ve seen them as low as $259.
I had a Tisas .45 I picked up for ~$250. I ran a few hundred rounds through it. FMj and defense rounds. Ate everything flawless. Barrel lock up wasn’t great and the accuracy was marginal but the gun was reliable.
Welcome to the Fold Brother Joseph!
You are right where you’re suppose to be man!
Great first post
Enzo, I have a Tisas 19911A1 ($300) Nice, plastic grips, Nuthin’ Burger sights
but damn can she lay it down. Don’t remember the round count but easily above
800 rounds and no breakage, loose parts, stove piping, jams ,Both Ball and Hollows, outside finish nothing to write home about literally Grey man but no wearing down of finish from in and outta da holster a few million times so that works for me also. I have other ‘pricy’ hardware that weathered worse
All in all a gun I would recommend
While I don’t own one I’ve shot enough of them that, as I said before, I was in my way to buy one.
Very nice gun but the recoil question is highly subjective. The 10mm round has a ton of options out there, from light and fast 135gr SD loads to 200gr hardcast hammer of Thor stuff.
This is one of the reasons I love the round, versatility
Empty it’s around 50+ ozs, double stack 10, so loaded 60+ ozs, it’s heavy but still has a bit of mule in it but manageable as long as you aren’t mag dumping it.
I have one of the Tisas 1911 Duty in 9mm. I have put about 1,000 rounds through it without any problems, parts wearing out, or breaking. I did pay about $550.00 for it from Tisas.
