In the past 10 years, my EDC has transitioned from a Glock 27 .40 to a Springfield Hellcat 9 mm to a Kimber Ultra Carry .45 and a Kimber Pro Raptor .45. I presently alternate between the Hellcat and Kimbers, depending on planned activities for the day (Hellcat is my beater for hot, sweaty days and crawling around under a vehicle). I have recently found myself wanting an 10 mm, but my research indicates that options are somewhat limited. Any recommendations, from anyone who EDCs a 10 mm, for a concealable, reliable 10 mm?
I do carry a DW Razorback 10mm and while I mostly prefer to open carry it when out off roading in the wilderness I will AIWB carry concealed on occasion. Some folks find concealing a full sized 1911 challenging. Doing it AIWB works well for me.
I’ve been thinking about having a Commander sized 10mm custom built for CC but somehow other gun priorities always seem to eat up that budget.
Since you are use to Glock, get the 29 or 20.
Hello, I do carry a Glock 29 for my edc it shoots well and if you dress for it it conceals well, it’s a little heavier but I got used to it and I just don’t carry anything else just don’t get the full power ammo or if you do have to use it in a self defense situation you don’t want to over penetrate the Winchester pdx1 in 180 grain opens up to around 9/10th of an inch in ballistic gell that’s a lot of knock down with fewer rounds needed which might be better in a courtroom, I know some will disagree with this but that’s my opinion I hope this helps you.
Springfield makes several XD-M models in various sizes and barrel lengths you might want to consider. They also have several 1911 offerings in 10mm, but so does many other brands.
Don’t have any recommendation as I don’t own one, yet.
I believe that EAA/Girsan has 5 models of 10mm that can be had in 4.25". I don’t own an EAA firearm, but I love their fellow Turkish manufacturer, Canik.
FWIW
I’ll sell you my M&P40. Is that close enough to a 10mm?
I carry a Springfield XD Elite with a 3.8" barrel in a 10mm…IWB. Love this gun. I actually got top shot in my carry renewal class with it.
Thanks for all the input. I have been looking at most of the mentioned options but have yet to narrow it down much. I really like 1911s and already have a bunch of holsters for the platform. I’d prefer a Commander size for EDC, but there aren’t many 10 mms available with a 4“- 4.25” barrel. The EAA/Girsan Influencer has piqued my interest; I just don’t have any experience with the brand nor do I know anyone who’s had one.
I somehow missed the XD Elite in my search. I’ve been pretty happy with my Hellcat for durability, reliability, and rust resistance (yes; I clean and oil frequently but long summer days cutting firewood or a day hunting in the rain really accelerate corrosion). I will try to check the XD out if I can find one at a local shop.
I also like Glocks for durability. They just ain’t pretty, and carrying them always feels like I chopped the end off a 2 x 4 and shoved it in my holster. The Hellcat feels a little better…more akin to a 5/4 decking board, by my estimation.
@Jonathan222
I do not have experience with 10mm , but there is no much difference with model design, comparing to 9mm or 45ACP.
Check online reviews of XD-M pistols. They may be a good option, but what I’ve noticed for last few years, their grip safety doesn’t work well with some people’s hands. Unfortunately the lever is much smaller that one used in 1911 / 2011 platform and even with proper grip it may fail to deactivate.
If you like Girsan 1911.. there is no reason to not go with it. Turkey made good pistols and I really value Canik for striker fired pistoils and Girsan for their 1911 pistols.
It’s definitely not a high end pistol, but for its price it’s a great buy.
You shouldn’t have any issue with this pistol.
Thanks for the info. Hadn’t thought about the smaller grip safety. Unfortunately, I’m old enough that I’ve started experiencing osteoarthritis in both thumbs which has started to impact the way I grip a pistol; really noticed it becoming more prominent in the past couple of months. There’s a good chance that small grip safety may prove a challenge for me.

Thanks for sharing. I haven’t run across some of those options in my research. I also didn’t bother researching ammo prices for 10mm practice ammo before researching gun options - ouch! The hunting and self defense rounds are priced as expected, but the practice ammo is outrageous.
That’s why 9mm is the king
My common carry in 10mm is either a Glock 40 or a long slide 6" Girsan Hunter 10mm
If you are entertaining full size/government size 1911, I will say I am happy with my Colt Delta Elite. Other than polishing it up a bit, the only modification, if you can call it that, was replacing the 2 recoil spring design with a single flat wire Wilson Combat 24 pound spring.
It has not had any hiccups with FMJ or HP ammo from 40S&W power to original Jeff Cooper power with the original springs as well as the Wilson spring.
How do you like the Girsan? Have yet to look at one in person, but the price point is definitely attractive and the reviews I’ve found seem to be mostly positive.
I had a chance to trade a S&W 629 for a first gen Delta Elite when I was a teenager. Loved the look and feel of it but had never shot an auto at that point in life and didn’t know how to properly grip it while firing. It jammed about every third round. Since it was a new model for Colt, I assumed it was due to a design flaw. Wasn’t until a few years later I realized I had likely limp-wristed it and caused the malfunctions.
I was also a little skeptical of the 10mm round for bear hunting, so kept the 629. I grew up bear hunting; all my family and fellow hunters carried wheel guns or lever actions in those days, so they also discouraged my trade.
Love it, its been an excellent firearm.
Only downside compared to other high end 1911 platforms, the trigger is a bit heavier, but that does not bother me…
My EDC is the Sig XTEN Comp. It’s accurate, flat shooting, and the right size to allow me to carry wearing a polo or t-shirt. Both of my holsters (owb - Blackpoint Tactical), (iwb - 4Bros) have adjustable height and cant, and are matched with a Kore Essentials 1.5’ belt, so the entire system is what affords the concealability and comfort.
