"A medical examiner recovered a single .45 caliber Winchester Black Talon bullet from Hayes’ body — “a bullet that has been out of production for at least 20 years and is therefore uncommon,”
“Investigators said they later learned DeBoer owns a Kimber 1911 handgun that he frequently carries and loads with the same ammunition.”
I’m not sure what a “Winchester Black Talon” round is or how the M.E. could tell that’s what it was. But in the end it looks like it all got tied back to this guys gun…
Neither one is has the distinct black coating on the bullet that Black Talon used so that’s probably how they positively identified it.
I used to have tons of Black Talon but a few years ago I found out the insane prices some folks were paying for it on Gunbroker so I sold it all. There’s better stuff out there nowadays.
It’s literally the exact same bullet as the critical defense round, just a green insert.
One is legal, the other makes your self defense an act of murder.
Also don’t have things like “have a nice day” or “smile and wait for the flash” engraved on your carry gun, as that will be used to show malicious intent. Even though it may have only been in jest…
If I follow, the ammo matters because he didn’t call 911 and report an act of self defense…he tried to fly under the radar unreported and the somewhat rare ammo he allegedly used matched to him?
Mistake: Even if this was a justified self defense shooting…call 911 and report it don’t just flee and hope it goes away
The reason black talons was dicontined was the any way they were supposed to be able to penetrate a BP vest because of the teflon coating but since they are hollow point ???
They were tested on police issued vests and ripped right through them. They were made in all calibers for a year or two even in 12 gage. They were removed from the market and considered illegal.
Agree, no matter make the call. We all been told to call before someone else does. because most of the time they get things all jacked up & sometimes it will hurt you,
