My wife and I are almost 70 years young. This year we received our biggest refund ever and in record time (two weeks). Thank you Trump! Since I brought a Ruger Mark IV recently (love it!) half is going to repair some rust on my work van, which is hardly used now, the other half in savings. Hopefully the war in Iran is over soon with no more lives lost and gas prices back to normal.
We got one medicare payment back, which was a pleasant surprise. We don’t use it as we no longer trust doctors, but it was better only losing $2220 to the industry than $4440.

Oh, and happy Thievery Day!
“Taxation is theft!”
Are you 1099?
Nope, something’s off with my wife’s W-4 set-up. I even have additional money taken out of my paycheck in anticipation of amount due to the thieves.
Sorry to hear that, Bean. Hopefully you/she can get the issue (withholding) sorted so that you don’t have an unpleasant surprise next year too.
And I’m a bean counter! ![]()
This year my wife and I got more than 3 time what we got last year in Federal refund. And 2 time back from our state refund. Thank you President Trump. And we also both were able to take the senior citizen deduction that came to around if I remeber $12k.
For the last 7 years, I’ve been able to claim $12k that went to my ex wife for alimony….. last payment to her was October 24,….
I was worried about loosing that deduction this year, but the overtime deduction more than offset it! I was able to claim the max $12.5k on that one! (560+ hours of OT, nearly $39k of income)
Total got about $4k back.
I didnt have to pay so im happy with that.
I try and have just enough taken out of my paycheck so I break even, plus or minus $100 or so when I file.
The over time thing got us back more than usual. Now I’ll plan on that for next year.
Only free loan I give out is to my daughter, definitely not to the govt.
I’m lucky I still get to claim our two youngest sons, so we got a fair amount back. It’s buying us a trip to Alexandria to see My Mom-in-Law come Memorial Day. We will go pay respects to Stepdad-in-law. He was Air Force Security Police and trained military working dogs in Viet Nam.
I try, and I have my deductions set as high as I can through my payroll website. (Would have to physically go to HR to set them higher)
It’s the overtime that kills me on taxes! 45-49 hours, and I see a lot of money vs 40 hours! 50-57 hours, and I may have just stayed home for a day they take so much more in taxes….. 57-65 hours and I start seeming the money again,…. But I’m never home to spend it! ![]()

Haven’t worked less than 50 hours in a week without calling in for a day in about 5 years……
My Fed refund was a little higher than years prior, for what it’s worth. Received my Fed refund in record time speed. State was slow.
Yup. Pretty sad when you have to spend money to pay (or do) taxes, but here we are.
My Federals went up 1K/quarter.
