Denver Accord

This looks interesting, in a bad way…

Not that we should be complacent about any organized attempt to dilute or delete the 2nd Amendment, but the Denver Accord people’s arguments are facile. Looking at the first of their “Four Principles:”

Guns do not make us safer . Perhaps the most urgent change we must make is to dispel the myth that guns make us safer. A gun in the home TRIPLES the risk of gun suicide and DOUBLES the risk gun homicide.

It’s pretty clear that we can replace “gun” in that paragraph with almost any word, and it would be equally true:

Frying pans do not make us safer . Perhaps the most urgent change we must make is to dispel the myth that frying pans make us safer. A frying pan in the home TRIPLES the risk of frying pan suicide and DOUBLES the risk frying pan homicide.

While I’m 100% certain that having a frying pan in the home increases the risk of frying pan homicide, if they were being honest, they’d be asking if having a frying pan in the home increases the overall risk of homicide.

Again, not to be dismissive of any organized anti-2A group, but the Denver Accord’s arguments appear weak.

“Guns don’t make us safer”

Then why do politicians have armed security?
