I believe that the intention of the 2nd Amendment was to preserve the governed’s ability to resist a tyrannical, despotic government. It was not intended as a crime fighting measure (unless you consider a tyrannical, despotic government to be criminal).
In my opinion, when the debate about guns devolves into the impact on street crime, it misses the real intent of the 2nd Amendment, which was to maintain the ability of the governed to control government. But having a debate about crime and crime statistics is far less controversial than having a legislative debate about whether government has become or could become a tyrannical, despotic institution.

I vote for having a debate about the impact of guns as it pertains to street crime. Well, if it’s open for debate. I am more concerned about the present than the past. Not that I am saying the past isnt important to have on the rear view mirror.
Gun owners in Colorado also are stuck with a far left democrat and his “husband”. Daily the left is pushing more and more onerous gun “laws” with of course, the ultimate end of disarming not just our state but the nation. We only have The Donald for a little less than 4 more years. In another post I posted part of a speech by George Bush Sr., a rino, who opined; “We must usher in the New World Order.” The demorats are bleeding from the eyes to disarm this nation. For those old enough to remember when Castro rolled in to Cuba, once a thriving well off little nation a hop, skip and a splash from Florida, since under a dictatorship, disarmed and not the thriving little hot spot it was. If the democrats get their way, there may be a war to end all wars in this nation…exactly why they’re desperate to disarm us.
As stated in an other place…nations once free like China, Venezuela, North Korea, how many others now under dictatorships…the bulls eye is on America and those blessed to live with conservative Republican governors take advantage. If they’re for some odd reason not familiar with the war on our 2nd. then provide them with some history. Happy hunting.
