Coverage for Church

I have been a USCCA member for quite a few years. My question is this, does my insurance cover me if I’m in a altercation a inside my church? I’m part of the security team and want to know how far my coverage goes.

Church Security Volunteer

I’ve been attempting to reach out to USCCA (currently waiting for an email response) regarding details of coverage extended to church security volunteers. I was wondering if any of you have inquired about this issue and what your understanding is on the topic. If any of us were involved in an identical situation like the one that recently occurred in the church in Texas, would we be covered by USCCA?

Has "armed security guard" coverage by USCCA recently changed?

Our Catholic Diocese has contracted with a large security firm for armed guard protection using trained/state law enforcement agency certified church member volunteers. The volunteers are required to be $1 per year “employees” of the security firm. I know the USCCA explicitly excludes coverage but someone told just me USCCA changed the policy and covers such guards. Has USCCA changed the policy on coverage for armed guards in places of worship? If no, would USCCA consider an exemption for $1 …

Ask USCCA legal. You’re probably pushing a gray area between minding your own business before needing to protect yourself or others vs. an organized group or organization that should have its own liability riders.

I know several churches up here that have a requirement to have a membership with USCCA

before you can join the security team at church.

@Dale.Williams.88 Welcome to the community! I don’t see why you shouldn’t be covered, but as indicated by some here in the community, call the USCCA Legal Team for a more accurate answer.

Welcome to the family brother @Dale.Williams.88 and you are in the right place at the right time. The team I am part of has some armed personnel but it is not required to be armed. The ones who are armed have to have their own insurance.
