I am in charge of Security at my local small House of Worship. We will only have 4 people on our Safety Team. My main concerns are making sure that everyone comes to them with their first aid/emergency needs and that they don’t get shot by the police while doing their job. So, those concerns call for, in my opinion, a nice badge that makes them easily identifiable to all. However, I have heard that some experts say a lapel pin is a better way to go, so that the Safety Team isn’t targeted. What do you all think?
Valid concern.
This may be more subtle.
I would suggest your team members wear an easily identifiable shirt which all church members know. A small lapel pin would be a nice after touch.
Not getting shot by police is a different story. Good luck on that one and PRAY.
You need to meet with the agencies that would be responding to your location in an emergency. Police and EMS. They will help guide you to an answer. It is a collaborative relationship.
THERE IT IS (for me). No pins or badges to identify you to the BG’s. It’s one thing to be ‘identified’ with a Huge ARMED RESPONSE/SECURITY front and back like I was for YEARS!. Trouble came to US!. We were just in the way. But a small-ish Church wear a shirt (not too flashy) but one yer Congregation would instantly know. If you had a LARGE group then (where everybody doesn’t KNOW everybody) then a earpiece or handheld radio might help—not flashy yet out of the ordinary.
People who ATTACK a CHURCH are vile creature’s—we need to stop them before they get through the doors.
