9 mm, .22, .45, .40, .380 or ???. Just 18 short months ago we had so many different calibers to readily choose from. Now with ammo in such short supply, are you changing your carry gun based on what caliber of ammo you can find?
I wonāt change my cal. as the EDC I carry is a 9. I have plenty of Hornady Critical Duty but I have changed my training firearm to the Browning 1911/22. All the actions/safety/mag release etc. are virtually the same.
No reason to change the caliber. Iāve been training with 9 and will stay with 9.
Ammo shortage actually helped me to apply more laser practice which Iām going to continue even the ammo price stabilizes at normal level.
Cheap .22LR helps as well, but still itās not Iām going to carry.
I only have 9mm so no option to change unless I get a new firearm. Have too much going on right now and canāt spare the money for another firearm right now. Next purchase is likely to be a rifle or shot gun and those are not good for edc.
I will carry whatever from .380 to 45 long Colt. However, the ammo shortage has not changed what I carry, just how much ammo i have NOT blasted in training. There are other ways to train, at home, without ammo. Dry fire drills, draw and dry fire drills, etc. Iāll hold on to the ammo I have until supply comes back up closer to the demand level, and I donāt see 300% markups in stores that sell ammo. Iāll also buy local instead of online when that happens. Local gun stores are havens, but they need buying customers to stay openā¦Iāll buy, note the future tense.
For now, I am very glad I stocked up well before the electionā¦
The cost of ammo and the need to keep it organized when there are several made me rethink my carry and home-defense firearms. I even got to the point that I considered what kind of ammo I might find when I ran out of my own. Once in a while, I consider my realities and choose based on those. If I were to just dream of what Iād like, Iād have many different guns and calibers.
Before this last year, I had already been preparing so we have plenty of range .22lr, 9mm, .40SW, .45ACP, 12GA, .223, 5.56, and .300 Blackout. With Hornady defense ammunition in 9mm, .40SW, .45ACP, and 12GA.
9mm is our choice for defense, as we have the most of it since we use it in our 9mm ARs as well.
I have enough carry ammo to fill my magazines and speed/quick loaders,
so thereās no need to change firearms/calibers.
Replacing ammo spent during training is another issue.
As long as my reloading components hold out, Iām good
Disappointed this was a āone orā Worse, no warning it was an āinsta-pick.ā
Anyway, Iāve got plenty of options down the order of ballistics and Iāll stick with the preferred before I start carrying my 22LRās around for primary protective equipage. And if I have to get there, the world will have become a sorry state of affairs long before.
Had the foresight to stock up on ammo little by little at gun shows (when we still HAD gun shows), and have been reloading for almost as long as Iāve been carrying. May have to use āhome rolledā JHPs in my backup magazines, should the excrement violently contact the rotary ventilation impulsion system, but not about to overpay for a new pistol in an obscenely overpriced (when and if available) new caliber. Do have a reasonable stock of secondary caliber and conversion barrel if necessary.
At the moment i have plenty ammo for all the weapons i have at the moment but itās getting close to gun show season here. Might have to practices with a different name brand but for EDC i have more than enough Hornady critical defense and duty for the criminals which choose to decide to catch some.
