The way I look at it is this, it’s only justified if a citizen would walk away with the same consequences as LE. If I get in an argument with my neighbor and jump on the hood of his vehicle as he tries to drive away, and shoot him because I felt like my life was in danger and I walk a free man, then sure LE should walk as well. However we all know I will be going to prison for putting myself into the position where my life was in danger.

On the surface, I agree with you. However, we expect our LEOs to put themselves in danger to apprehend the “bad guys". We don’t expect that of the average Joe!
