Gerber Doubledown Butterfly Machete

That looks nice. I had a butterfly knife years ago. I didn’t realize Gerber made one. I’ll have to check it out. (just be very aware of what handle to hold) :grimacing:

It’s not a knife. it’s a 15 inch machete.

Oh! Wow! I looked it up and see that now. That’s really cool and MUCH bigger than the butterfly knife I was thinking of initially. :joy:

It’s not a butterfly knife in the flipper sense. Just like Cold Steel had a butterfly knife that opened like a balisong but couldn’t be flipped. I think this Gerber has stop points as you close it, and is very stiff ot open or close.

Interestingly enough, although I know that there is a history tracking back to the Philippines related to butterfly knives, my research suggests that non-flipping butterfly designs were traced back to Europe (maybe Germany) for things like yard equipment knives. They couldn’t be flipped, but the design was handy, inexpensive, simple, and sturdy.
