I think I’m sometimes in the same exact regions you are. Yes, let’s prepare for emergencies.
I personally think we are not currently at a point where we as ‘good guys’ need to also be lawless. ‘God Forbid’, if society ever did breakdown and collapse where we were being attacked, then yes, we are defenders of our family.
If an incident occurs, there may still be what’s left of a judicial system to investigate our actions which we may be judged for. Just a humble word of caution of the other side of the coin.
Hopefully we will still continue to promote good behavior, but also prepare.

In which case it’s not lawless.
I believe in democracy and in our institutions charged with protecting and defending the Constitution. Congress may be a chaotic mess, the Whitehouse an absolute disaster, which is why we have a Supreme Court.
SCOTUS is still functioning pretty darn well. Their unanimous decision regarding ballots in Colorado (which I predicted) was exactly what needed to be done to reassert the healthy functioning of the court. Any of the three liberals on the court would have surely loved to see Trump taken off the ballot, but they saw the dire state of democracy and asserted themselves as a bulwark against a total collapse of the Republic. Other crossover votes in the last year similarly point out a healthy functioning the court.
Could things go very very badly in the next 7-12 months, absolutely. Unless Vlad totally flips his already very loose lid and starts hurling nukes at us, I think there will be some disruptions around the election, some marches, some protests, some burning. And it will be swiftly contained. Law enforcement organizations will not be caught with their pants down this time.
Just this last weekend our state National guard was rehearsing containing violent breakdowns. Our local law enforcement is out at the range more often than I’ve ever heard before. (I can hear them outside my windows - sweet sound.)
In my heart of hearts, I believe all will be well despite some bumps along the way.
And yet I still keep my powder dry 'cuz the world has never been this messed up in my lifetime.

Just remember. When the power goes out, you are one can of corn away from being overrun 20 days in. Can you look at your larder minus refrigerators and freezers and make it 30 days? That is the tipping point. 30 days.

My generators will only last maybe (2) weeks w/ my sm. gas supply.
My food supply can last (6+) months without power.
My Ammo…well that depends on THEM.

Living in the State you do I feel your pain! Your Governor is as rabid a leftist as in Kalifornia and NY. When the Shiite hits the fan it will most likely be in the deep blue States first. I would argue the time is now. If the DemocRATs win in November it is over.

Funny how that works. In Utah we have a BIG concentration of left thinkers located in SLC. This is where all of the BLM, RvW, LGBTQI protests with frozen water bottles and tipped over burning cop cars occurred. In other parts of the state where Right Thinkers are majority people seemed to have just gone about their business, nothing tipped over, nothing on fire…

What I have been saying for a bit here the amount of Undocumented, unvetted, Invited Newcomers are FLOODING across in the Sunland Park NM area. Every since Abbott (TX) has done his job they are finding easier routes into our country. And NM is about as open as you can get!. I’ve said this often here whatever .gov Gruesome(CA) does, plans, scheme’s our azzhat replicates (or tries too)
If it ever hits the ventilator’s these people will be the LAST one’s to feel the pain. With their 24 hr. security and High Walls they can witness the Blood Bath live on CNN.
Innocents are already dying coast to coast and they simply either don’t care or it’s all part of their plan…
The cost in Human life is going to be unprecedented.
