Seems like Arkansas is actually getting the point
It’s about time more states caught up to some of us civilized states.
Who have hunting and gun safety classes held by the school. even school sanctioned skeet teams.
When I was in High School we had what was called the “Hunters Class” which was offered as an elective for one year (it could only be taken in one year of high school, not all four years of high school.) The class covered darned near everything a hunter/fisherman/trapper may be faced with out in the field. A gig section of it was first aid. There was gun safety. There was conservation. There was boating safety. EVERYTHING. Back then we all had shotguns in our trucks on school property because we were going hunting before or after school.
Nobody did anything stupid.
We had a skeet team and a long-range team. Long-range team shot .22LR open sight out to 500 yards. Those teams competed and had a wall full of trophies in the main hallway just like the athletic and academic teams.
And nobody did anything stupid.
After I got out of the Air Force and moved back home, I saw those teams and the class had disappeared and there were no longer any weapons allowed in student vehicles on school property. It was a Texas Board of Education thing and if any Independant School District wanted funding from the state, they had to comply.
30 plus years later, things are finally turning around. Schools are being allowed to have shooting teams again. I don’t live in my birth town any longer and the local school district does have an unsponsored student shooting team lead by a schoolteacher. Our local school board is strongly considering sponsoring the team and implementing a class similar to what I had when I was in school.
Way to go Arkansas. Lead by example.

BruceE - with you all the way my friend. I grew up the same way. It was nothing to carry a gun into school and put it in your locker, cause after school you were going hunting with a buddy. Nobody said anything. You might be going with teachers to the trap range in the PM.
