An Easter Season Double-Feature

Those of you who’ve seen my posts know that films are my favorite entertainment, especially classic films. Two that are being shown on movie channels this season are THE ROBE and its sequel, DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS. If you can watch them and ignore the glaring errors, they both have decent plots, great casts and action. THE ROBE was the 2nd film shot in Cinemascope, and the 1st to be released - this is one of a young Richard Burton’s early roles - Jeff Chandler was first cast as Demetrius, but Victor Mature landed it in both films. Jay Robinson played Caligula - and wound up torpedoing his career for ten years - much like George Lazenby’s fate as Bond. Not bad for the early 1950s. FYI
