I have a Ruger SR 22 pistol. Love the gun. Fun to shoot accurate and with my arthritis easy on my hands a wrists. Problem is, when I use Armscor .22 lr ammo, I can only get about 50 rounds off before I start having major failure to feed issues. It seems that the ammo has a heavy wax coating that fouls the gun after about 4 or 5 mags and it won’t clear up without a thorough cleaning. The think is, is that I picked up 2,000 rounds of this stuff for a good price before the prices started crashing. So, anyone got any good ideas for cleaning this stuff up before I use it again? BTW, it’s copper jacketed so I’m confused why it would be wax coated.
I found the Armscor Ammo to be very dirty. I wouldn’t use it in a semiauto pistol. Maybe in a single action, or a manual action rifle.
Maybe try putting a palmful of shells in a rag and try wiping off the excess wax.
Got the same with Armscor ammo.
The wax exists on every 22LR I’ve been shooting so far, but found that Aguila and CCi MiniMag never got issues.
I recommend using High Velocity. These seem to cycle pistols better.
If cleaning the gun works for you… just continue doing that and change ammo next time.
CCI in my SR22. Other jam.
I have found 40 Grain CCi to work pretty well for me. Definitely keep it clean as much as you can, as you continue to train with that ammo until you transition to a different kind.
The process CCI uses to apply wax is dependent on environmental conditions at the Lewisville factory. It is extremely rare that CCI will have excess wax enough to be an issue, but even so it could happen. If you should come upon a box that does cause mischief, the rag trick should do the job for you.
CCI Mini Mag or (even better) CCI Velocitor. Ya still gotta keep your .22 clean and properly lubed.
Best solution is grab a BEER and a sandwich, pull up a chair to your table, and start wiping down all the rest of the ammo.
Speaking about the beer… next time buy the true AMMO
Browning BPR works pretty good as well. It’s high velocity.
I’ve had good success with CCI and Aguila ammo in 22LR in both my pistols and rifles.
I had a 10/22, the stove pipe model…or so I thought. Every time I’d try to get through 10 rds, it’d have a stovepipe. I swapped to CCI and that was that. I only use CCI now; it’s a quality clean ammo (clean for a .22 that is). I know I comment on it a lot, but if you buy directly from CCI and spend something like 100 bucks, you get free shipping. These are usually available a few times/month and you can buy 10 boxes at a time (depending, of course, on what state you live in)
Is there a map of the free American states?
