Every opportunity I have I head out the driveway into the wilderness. I’m lucky I have off road trails leading waaaaaaaaaay away from people very near me and I can load the Jeep with guns/anmmo and be shooting in no time at all.
Today I voted early and to celebrate I headed out to nature to remind myself of what I’m trying to protect.
My constant companion. All I have to say is “Go for a ride?” And she’ll beat me out the door.
Used to do all those things. Around me primarily forest. But, it’s a two hour drive to get there. Since getting sick don’t get out there anymore. Those pictures are awesome. Oh, you and the dog too. Especially the third picture. And whether it’s the forest, your mountains and wildlands and the good people I know, I have voted and will enjoy your celebration. Thanks @Enzo_T
@Enzo_T We just purchased our first Jeep Wrangler a few months ago. Our first excursion was shortly after we purchased it. We went on a little road known in NC as Old NC105. It led us to Linville Falls. Two weeks later, Helene hit. We haven’t been able to go back since to see how much it has changed. Last weekend we ventured out into the “wild” again. It’s not really the wild, but Uwharrie National Forest has quit a few offroad trails to enjoy. Our little pup is knocking down the door if we even mention the word ride.
I lived for a couple of years in western NC and my heart is broken for what happened with Helene. I know old NC 105 and Linville Falls was a favorite destination! Been to Uwharrie a few times too!
Few folks notice that off the Blue Ridge Prkway there are some dirt roads that you can take your Jeep on and find some nice hiking trails off the beaten path. Pay attention because many are not marked so if you’re not looking you’ll miss them! Also the area by Burnsville has some spectacular drives and some old dirt roads that you can go on, at least I hope they are still there.
Best of luck and I hope you guys bounce back and rebuild quick
Just spotted this on my last outing. For some it’s a once in a lifetime sighting! Sorry the picture is grainy. It was at the very end of my phone zoom capabilities, but I thought you folks would enjoy it.
When I lived in WA state, we used to go over to Chelan and the lake there. always hear about sage brush and seeing it in the movies. It’s a completely different experience and smell when you’re out in it.
Nancy and I went for a walk along the Embarrass River in E. Central WI, on Tuesday. The road ends and the trail starts at a County Park and goes for a mile or more upstream.
Edit… We were in the middle of a monthlong drought when I took the pics, very unusual here. Tonight we are getting a 24 hour rain storm, mostly gentle, I hope.
A Paper Wasp nest we saw in a Maple tree, about 2 feet long.
White Pine, Red Pine, Beech, Birch, Spruce, Balsom, Hemlock, Maple, Oak and Cedar.
If you click on the pic once and click again to enlarge it, you can see all the initials carved into the 2 Beech trees over the years.
Monkey see, monkey do.
I got out twice in the past couple weeks with the wife’s blessing. Dolly Sods for 3 days two weeks ago and just back from another 3 days between Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls state parks here in WV. Hike by day, count stars by night, in bed by 7 lol
