A Cautionary Tale

I want to relate an incident to the forum that happened to me yesterday. I feel the incident could best serve as a cautionary tale because sometimes sh*t happens. The incident makes me burn with anger and I considered not posting, but on the advice of a trusted friend on the forum, I will post what happened.

I work in a commercial vehicle repair shop. Big trucks. Peterbilts. Kenworths. Freightliners. This is a MAN environment. A TEXAN Man environment. We carry guns in Texas.

I carry my full size Beretta 92A1 on my hip pretty much all day.

We had a walk-in customer come in yesterday morning. He’s from Commiefornia. As Service Manager, it is my responsibility to greet the customers when they walk in and get a run-down of what the complaint on their vehicle is and give possible faults or repair options.

So, I greet this guy and I see he is instantly very nervous. He keeps looking at my sidearm. I try to get the information we will need in order to repair his vehicle and he keeps staring at my sidearm. He finally up and tells me “I don’t like guns.”

I give him the simple answer. “Then don’t buy one.”

Him: “Why do you carry a gun at work? Is this a bad area? Am I in danger being here? I heard a bunch of Mexicans own this shop.”

I blink at him several times. “I carry a gun at work because I am a free Texas citizen over the age of 21 and My Boss gave me permission to carry at work. This is not a bad area, you are not in any danger. My Boss, the man who owns the shop is from Honduras. I have one technician from Cuba and one from Puerto Rico. The rest are straight up Americans. No Mexicans, though.”

Him: “I don’t think it’s legal for you to carry a gun in a public place like this. You’re going to get arrested if you keep doing it.”

Me: “You’re not from here, are you?”

Him: “Los Angeles. California. In California, you would be arrested and sent to prison.”

Me: “Good thing we’re not in California. What can you tell me about the fault you are having with your vehicle?”

Him: “Why do you want to know that?”

Me: “So I can tell my technician what to look for so we can get your vehicle repaired and you back on the road. Trucks don’t make money sitting still in a shop.”

Him: “I don’t think I want to have my truck fixed here by a bunch of Mexican Cartel members.”

He turns and walks out. I’m thinking “Good Riddance” and I was glad that was over. My Boss and my service writer were both there to witness it. We thought it was over

Then several police cruisers show up with lights and sirens on and we get invaded. They took my sidearm and I was cuffed and stuffed into a cruiser. I didn’t get to say anything before it happened. My Boss showed them the security footage and I was released. I have to go fill out paperwork to get my sidearm back.

The rest of the story is that this guy from LA, Commiefornia, got pulled over for speeding 2 minutes after he left our shop. He told the officer on scene he was afraid for his life and just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. He claimed I was irrational and had pointed my gun at him and threatened him for being from LA. He said “The Mexicans” were cheering me on. Incidentally, the man was black. Not home grown African American, but AFRICAN.

I just don’t get some people. All I want to do is make an honest paycheck doing honest work. I want to keep trucks on the road, to keep truckers trucking delivering all the stuff they haul to Walmart or the grocery store or fuel to the stations. I have bills to pay and a family to feed just like everybody else does.

As I stated earlier this is a cautionary tale, to be utilized as a learning scenario. I don’t want all the good free advice from a dozen different people who weren’t here, to tell me what I should have done, to tell me I should have not let them take my weapon, to tell me I should sue them for taking it.

I DID FINE.

I LIVE IN TEXAS, I am a Lawful gun owner and I am within the Texas Penal Code to carry at work. My Boss knows and gave his permission to carry. We will run into rat bastards like this who are RACIST/RABID/WOKE Socialist Anti-Gunners WHO NO MATTER WHAT WE SAY OR DO, will stop at nothing to GET US IN TROUBLE anyway they can, including LYING. This guy got stopped for speeding and tried to lessen his troubles by turning me in.

It could happen to you so keep your head, COMPLY (even though it sucks!) and make the situation as painless for yourself as possible

Maybe I’m just getting grumpy in my old age and just want people to stop phucking with me.

Sorry to hear that you had that encounter and subsequent ordeal. Also glad that you were able to get it sorted out even though you shouldn’t have had to anyway.

It is a good “heads up” to the community. We never know who we will encounter or what their intentions or actions may be.

Thanks for letting us know of your experience, Bruce!

People lie. Lefties seem to be better at it. “My eyes are up here, sir.” may have been useful
or at least funny. They should lock this guy up for wasting resources, lying to officers, and not watching enough Babylon Bee skits about lefties moving to red areas.

Hoplophobes are incorrigible liars.
If they’re not, they wouldn’t be anti-2A.

Every single one of them.
Edit: The commiefornia kind are the worst.

No advice, Bruce, just sympathies. I also admire that you kept your cool in a blatantly ridiculous situation.; not easy to do. Good on you.

It does occur to me that perhaps the police who responded could use a bit more training for situations like that.

Too bad he can’t be sued for defamation of character. Too bad you can’t get enough information to send him back to africa.

(Think I’ve possibly had too much coffee today. The second sentence caused me to instantly think of Eddie Murphy in Coming to America lol)

I wonder if he came into your shop to get a reaction from you. When you acted civilized all he could do is leave.

I get really frustrated when I heart about law abiding citizens getting cuffed & stuffed that have violated no laws. I know the cops have to take what they hear seriously but damn, totally legal and sitting in a cop car and then going to file out papers to get your personal belongings back

Bruce, sorry to read of this hassle! I hope you are able to get your Beratta back without trouble and it’s in as good a shape as when they took it. Those police need more training. I don’t understand why they took it after seeing the footage and recognizing you did nothing wrong. Good luck brother.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your horrible experience to make the rest of us aware that such an unthinkable event can occur. I live in a rural area where open carry is both legal and commonly observed. Often see open carry at the local box stores and even in banks. I generally carry concealed but do occasionally open carry or inadvertently expose my CCW while reaching for something without giving it much thought.

The only time I’ve ever seen anyone become noticeably scared by my sidearm was many years ago while I was in college; my two city slicker neighbors in my apartment complex were visibly terrified by the site of a gun. At the time, I found it humorous that anyone could get so bent out of shape at the sight of someone legally carrying in a non-threatening manner. But, that was a college town where idiots abound.

Your experience will definitely serve as a cautionary tale for me. My area has, unfortunately, become overrun with “come heres” that want nothing more than to teach us poor, dumb hillbillies how to think, live, and act, so what happened to you could certainly happen here.

As evidence, there were numerous calls to local law enforcement agencies last fall regarding suspicious persons dressed in camo and carrying long guns who disappeared into the woods - all these calls came during our firearms deer season.

Sorry you went through the bullsh-t no advice or tips just a comment of my own belief that is one reason I don’t open carry. concealed till I need it then nobody knows it’s there. Also the reason I like living in Texas I can do either.

Dear “Fine”. You got patience. Wow. Fascinating story. Your workplace does sound like a cool place to work. I love my home grown African brethren and USA home grown Mexicans, unlike our guest from Cali. I think I was about 16 when I first learned you don’t ever mess with a Texan road officer. Me, speed in Texas, heck no. Are the mirrored sunglasses not enough?

Although I don’t live there - my family of cops hail from there.

Obviously he tried to lessen his error by trying to make an excuse. Good he “booked it out” early, he was a liability waiting to happen, can one imagine all the string of problems he would have brought, had he had stuck around.

The police there probably just had to cover their own a _ _ _ s, by securing the scene first, till they saw it was all clear.

Forgot where I heard it, "First rule of traffic driving safety, assume the other guy is an idiot. Or for our Cali guest, just to be clear for him to ‘get it’, in Mexican that’s “estĂșpido”.

Maybe just me, but that’s the reason i carry concealed. Been licensed to do so in Texas since 1996.

Make sure to get a copy of the police report, and ask if it stays on record so you can get this incident expunged or taken off. It’s a false report. Also expect that they probably will not return the ammo. You don’t want this complaint lingering on record. See if they can get a copy of your boss’s video on record if this complaint has to remain on record in their police files. Something to take into consideration to protect yourself from any future incrimination. This is a false complaint, so do what you can to ask the police questions when you’re there to fill paperwork to pick up your firearm because they probably already recorded the firearm on that false complaint about it being falsely used in the manner that the Black dude explained. Just because the police reviewed the video don’t mean they aren’t going to dismiss the complaint.
