3rd degree felony - A Curious 3 Year Old?

“was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with aggravated child abuse, a third-degree felony.”

“(Delgado) does not own a gun safe or any way to store the multiple guns in the residence safely,” prosecutors noted in charging documents."

Another case of ignorance? Or was she simply stupid? Or is this an unfortunate case of a 3 year old climbing around, like 3 year old s do, pulling the shelf down, like 3 YO’s do and getting the gun?

Sorry but i completely agree with that… i mean come on, people baby proof cabinets and corners, and she leaves a loaded firearm out?:man_facepalming:t2:

S**T like this happens until you understand why you have a kid…

Speaking for myself only. When my son got big enough to get into things I bought a safe. This was also because cousins etc. coming over for holidays or whatever, can’t keep a constant eye on them all. His older cousin was 7 when he was 3, and easily into things. I understand the idea that safes etc. can be expensive. That’s why for one friend asking me what to do, I said Goodwill and buy a suitcase or briefcase with a lock, depending on your needs. I can say, that although my family is pretty much all pro 2A, we would all have something to say if one of the kids came out of her room with a loaded gun.

If it passes the State’s minimum requirement, great!

Also, a used steel locking file cabinet at Goodwill would be a good alternative.

I kept my first firearm disassembled and unloaded on the top shelf in the closet while my little ones were at that age. (And didn’t have a safe)

I actually bought my safe to lock up my guns after I bought my second one.

Not because of the kids, but because of my now ex wife!

A: I didn’t want her shooting me in my sleep

B: she had a habit of disappearing my stuff and telling me I never had it! (Not gonna happen to a gun in a 400lb safe that’s bolted to the floor!)

One thing I will say about all of this. We live alone 2 60+ adults. Our life style is different than if there were 3 year old’s around. Like I’ve said before, when Will 4 or Kane 2 come over we unload and lock up all of our firearms. In fact I even take the EDC on my belt and remove the round from the chamber and put it back on my belt. My sons or daughter in laws come in and sweep the house. just to make sure there are no guns or knives accessible by the little people. But that’s just us, not everyone goes to those lengths.

I’m hoping it will be a few more years before I have grand babies!

When that does happen, I will re-childproof my house…. Ish.

Firearms; locked up for sure!

But my edc? IWB under my shirt, will be chambered.

Obviously not for the kids, but if I’m carrying a loaded gun in my daily life because I feel I need it… why would I not be even more on point when the most precious things are visiting?

I don’t disagree, I just wouldn’t want one of them to find it on my belt, mess around and something terrible happens. I think of it like this, I’d rather have it and need to rack it than have to go get it, load a mag and rack it.

To me, and as was with my nephews and niece, when I visited I let my sister know I was armed she was fine with it.

The kids never knew I even had a gun until it came up in conversation with their father.

We used it as an educational opportunity!

“You wouldn’t play with a cops gun, why would you play with mine?” Kind of thing, bear in mind that was a decade ago

My grandbabies reach in my pockets, get into R’s purse, mess with me, climb all over me and I love it. They are extremely curious, when they feel a concealed firearm they want to grab it, explore it. I just practice the best of both worlds.

I love kids, let my niece braid my hair for years! (Yep I’m a long haired hippie people!)

I love that kids have no boundaries!

It is to us as adults to set them.

My gun (if it had been found) would have been one of those boundaries.

I see no reason it can’t be both.

When each of my sons were 3 i put a unloaded gun on the table and taught them it was not a toy and not to touch. They never did. When they were 5 I taught them a gun is deadly and is for killing and how to handle a gun. When they were 7 i started them shooting and how to shoot. Today they are responsible gun owners. The book says “TRAIN UP a child”… Amen!

I have no kids but my guns stay locked in safe when not in use because I live in a big city and home burglaries are way to common.
