3-3-3 at a range

It sounds simple enough, draw and fire three shots in three seconds at a target three yards distant.
But what if the range doesn’t allow holster draw?
I’ve been substituting a draw from the bench but there has to be a better way to realistically cultivate muscle memory.
I used to practice this at a pal’s private range on his ranch, but he passed away so the access to his range is gone and all that’s available to me is an indoor range in town.
Suggestions?

I’ve got no limitations at my ranges fortunately but before whatever carry gun I’m training with gets fired, I go through the motions a few times, draw, aim and repeat . At home I use one of those laser bullets, which only allows one shot but shows my theoretical poi.

It’s difficult to put this all together in three seconds. I find that drawing and target acquisition are the time killers so to accomplish any improvement towards the goal (3-3-3) requires putting it all together with a real holster and real ammunition

That’s also all I can do at indoor ranges near me.

I only do holster draws at home with laser.

Change the Range.

But seriously - divide your draw stroke into 3 steps:

  1. draw up and direct the muzzle at the target
  2. marry your hands (low ready, compressed ready - whatever your process is)
  3. extend, prep the trigger, aim, break the shot

If your Range doesn’t allow you to draw from the holster - that only means you cannot go with step 1.
So you just skip it and start from low ready or compressed ready, from the spot which is the part of your draw stroke, before you marry both hands.
Usually step 1 takes 0.3 - 0.5 sec, so once you practice 3-3-3, you shorten the time from 3 seconds to 2.5 :ok_hand:

Step 1, 2 and 3 together can be practice dry at home. The best result is using laser cartridge and target.

I did this trick at my old Range and it worked great. Nobody ever said a word I couldn’t practice this way.
These days I use a Range which allows me to use my handgun the same way I’d do in real life.

I have found is be quicker out the the holster saves time on the grip marry and trigger prep

How about 6 shots in 3 seconds at three yards?

It’s twice more bullets… not 3-3-3 anymore :person_shrugging:

9 shots then?

As many as you can accurately put into the target in 2.5 seconds from 3 yards. :slightly_smiling_face:

Try switching to a dry-fire laser training system https://www.amazon.com/Mantis-Laser-Academy-Training-Kit/dp/B09G5VP93W

It lets you practice draw, aim, and trigger control safely at home, so you can still build proper muscle memory even without holster draws at the range.

3-3-3 I’m thinking 3 cubed, so 27 shots…and 1 beer.

As long as you can do it in three seconds, John Wick.

My health has gone downhill pretty badly, so I use a laser training system regularly in my home to build muscle memory to make up for when I can’t get to the range as much as I would like.

I still haven’t figured out my shot timer completely.

Do you have a Pact?

Do you need a partner to operate the Pact? Or, can you be self-timed?
