1911 45acp -

I’m looking for a cheap/mid ranges 1911. Saw these. Anyone have any experience with this make and model? Looking in the 800 range, if you have any suggestions I would certainly appreciate.

Value for money. I have the full size and compact both in .45ACP. You can afford the blinged versions.

I have the 4.25 in .45 and the 5” in 10mm, both are excellent, the base models have all the refinements I like. I would avoid the “Baby Rock” though, I found the magazine a knuckle-buster to load, and the tiny grip safety makes it a serious pain in the ass to operate reliably.

They look nice.

I’m not much help here. I just ordered a SA Operator in that price range and looking forward to shooting it.

Later, I found this:

Alpha Foxtrot Af1911 Standard (80 Series) - For Sale - New

I don’t have any experience with a .45 (yet) but I have and really like AF’s 9mm 1911 Double Stack, the Romulus. One would think that they can build a proper 1911.

FWIW.

Good luck!

Everything I read indicates the Rock Islands you are looking at are, pun intended, rock solid.

However, if I was looking in the $800 price range I would also consider the Springfield Armory Garrison 1911. Shop around and you might find it cheaper, but Midway sells it for $737.29:

I have had a couple of students recently with newly purchased Tisas 45’s. They were pleased at the price point and performance.

I value Tisas 1911 more over RIA 1911 these days.
I cannot complain on RIA, but I spent $700 for it few years ago and had to put some extra work to make it smooth shooter. Rough edges were the worst.
With less money spent on Tisas you can have smooth tool out of the box

For the $800 price range get something nice like a Springfield base model.

RIA have a good rep, but I wouldn’t spend more than $400 on a base model or $500 for an upgraded model.

I own a GI Tisas. It works. A relative had a nicer version of the Tisas with some jamming issues. A quick adjustment of the ejector it was gtg. I don’t shoot it much because when I do get range time I’m shooting my home defense or edc handgun.

1911s are cool and they shoot nice, but I’ve become a low maintenance tubaware gun kinda guy.
